Most hopeful (and interesting) article I've read in ages,
by Amy Sullivan, about the growing discomfort among many evangelical christians with repug policies: When Would Jesus Bolt?

Kerry mention:

...Even a simple measure to protect the rights of workers to wear religious garb such as the hijab in the workplace or to swap work schedules with a colleague on religious holidays like Good Friday hit a brick wall when business interests got involved. For 10 years, Republican congressional leaders - and, since 2001, the Bush White House - have refused to support the Workplace Religious Freedom Act (cosponsored by John Kerry and Rick Santorum) because the business lobby, led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, opposes the idea that employers should have to make accommodations for religious workers. In a November 2005 hearing on the legislation, Rep. Mark Souder (R-Ind.), angrily dressed down the Chamber's witness, declaring himself "incredibly disgusted, as well as disappointed" by her testimony. This earned him a rebuke from the committee chair, who reminded Souder that "private business... has the right to set the rules."...

1. So, even Santorum can't get that through
Remember how much heat Sen. Kerry took on that last year in the DU forums. (He's selling out or caving in to the religious lobby. Sigh!) Money trumps everything for the Rethugs, even religious freedom bills. sigh!

Nice catch Whome, I liked this.

3. Yesterday this was an
issue on a thread where Kate Mickelman (sp?, the former head of NOW) was going to run as a 3rd party. One person who has tangled with our group before was adament that even if there was a 2nd pharmacist to hand an emergency contraceptive presciption to it was wrong for the first pharmacist to not do it. I am apparently not pro-choice because I don't see the problem.

THis person could't see that the root of this whole thing was respecting others.

2. Oh good grief
I'm glad Kerry did that bill because every religious person deserves to be treated as an equal and wow Santorum working with Kerry? Excuse me, my head just exploded.
