Arrrggghhhh!!!!!!
Okay I came to DU to post about a Newsweek article that seriously needs to be rated down. I'm not even going to link to it, it's so awful. It's the one by Michael Hirsh title "Fear of Failing." There are so many stupidities in that article I don't even know where to begin.

Anyway, if you feel up to it, just go over to MSNBC, find that article, and rate it down. If you value low blood pressure, either don't even read it or keep the meds handy.

The guy claims to be neither a Dem or Repub, but it doesn't matter - the portion of the article that I was able to stomach was so full of inane trashing that it makes DU (almost) look sane. I wonder what his screen name is here? (I have some guesses...)

Anyway, on the way to this forum I took a detour through GD-P and ran across a post saying that Paul Hackett (remember him?) was trashing Murtha on Air America. Sheesh.

1. Just went over and read the GD-P thread

I can't remember what day it was, but within the last week or so, I happened to turn on Air America and some guy was speaking whom I didn't know. He was on some sort of tirade, but I'd come in in the middle of it so I didn't even know who he was talking about. My impression was that this guy was a crazy hothead who didn't care what trash he talked about anyone so long as he made his point. He was rhetorically addressing someone he was calling "Johnny" and accusing him of somehow dissing the troops. I was afraid at the time he might be talking about/to JK. I was shocked out of my wits when he identified himself, going into commercial, as Paul Hackett! As Oscar Wilde said, "'Jack' is a notorious domesticity for 'John'", so I suppose he could have been calling Murtha "Johnny", but I still don't know who he was talking about. I will tell you my impression was that he was venomous, extreme and unfair and I was glad that he wouldn't be running for the Senate.

2. I heard him another time and had the same impression
a self-important, arrogant hot head. It was around the time the generals were speaking out and he was calling out the Democrats in Congress for not speaking out and was even conflating their 2006 comments with the legislators 2002 vote. He was doing the work of the RW. I didn't kow who he was and checked the radio display to make sure I hadn't changed the channel to get some guest host for Limbaugh.

Like you I'm glad he's out. I hope his 15 minutes ends soon as it's gone on too long.

6. yes he was talking about Murtha
Murtha's name is John--Jack a nickname. I agree, this guy Hackett is not ready for prime time. Maybe he'd be better off as a journalist. He interprets Murtha's speaking out as being against the troops, but he's against the whole war and sees the troops as being victims, almost.

3. A bit about Hackett on the Ed Schultz show recently
Paul Hackett filled in for Ed Schultz on Monday. In my opinion, he should hold on to his day job, and not count on a career as a radio talk show host. I didn't hear much of his show, other than the first few minutes, because I was on my way to meet up with Tay, Vek and WEL at the mall. I was not impressed with Hackett's radio 'talents'. He sounded like he was reading off a script, at least from the few minutes I caught.

Yesterday, Schultz had Hackett on as a guest, and that's where I heard him dissing Murtha. Hackett is also a lawyer, and he is legally representing a Marine who claims he is being mistakenly connected by Murtha to the Haditha massacre. Apparently Murtha has been talking about three Marine officers having been relieved of command shortly after the incident. But it seems Hackett's client was relieved of command for reasons unrelated to the Haditha incident, and his unit was not involved in the events at Haditha. So he wants Murtha to stop lumping his client in with the other Marine officers he's talking about.

4. So Hackett says
But I read the reason he was relieved of command was because somebody used swear words on a television show and said something critical; so I'm not sure that I believe that. Seems like an awfully petty reason to relieve somebody from command in a time of war; but we shall see.

5. Third time I've seen this
in the last week. They're obviously going to go for the weakling Dems, all politicians are corrupt, and Dems are hedonists, this election. I'm not sure if we have an offense, but it sure looks like these are the things we need to be ready to defend.

8. These RW whores aren't fooling anybody with their rhetoric. They are
about as non-partisan as Jeb Bush. Just rated it down and it was at 2.something. Apparently nobody much cares for Mr. Hirsh's opinion.
