I know most of you will say this is bunk: I Ching. But this is interesting
Question: Will John Kerry overcome the difficulty he is now facing from the left?

The present is embodied in Hexagram 13 - T'ung Jen (Fellowship with Men): The union of me appears here in the remote districts of the country, indicating progress and success. It will be advantageous to cross the great stream. It will be advantageous to maintain the firm correctness of the superior man.

There are no changing lines, and hence the situation is expected to remain the same in the immediate future.

The things most apparent, those above and in front, are embodied by the upper trigram Chi'en (Heaven), which represents strength and creativity.

The things least apparent, those below and behind, are embodied by the lower trigram Li (Fire), which represents brightness and warmth.

1. Pretend I'm a retard and tell what that means.
That first line, btw is really kind of double-entendre heaven. I'm just saying, not that I want to go there or anything. (Ahm, I flunked Zen. What does this mean?)

So, is this good or bad?

2. Just curious, does it change anything if you change left by centrists?
I think that in the real world (not the blogosphere), the real difficulty is from people who think we have to adopt a Southern strategy and that Kerry is not the man for that (does not connect to the common man crap).

Seriously, interpretation requested.

9. This can get complicated..... I just posted a quickie version.

What I posted above is just the fortune cookie interpretation of T'ung Jen. This was generated as a quickie online reading and was posted for amusement only. If you want deeper meaning, you need to study I Ching.

T'ung Jen is the hexagram response to the question. There is a random act to I Ching, similar to throwing dice. The random aspect is supposed to be the way you connect with the spirit world in order to start a dialog about a situation or an issue. I'm not very good at explaining it, so if there are any experts here, please join in.

I use I Ching as a meditation tool to enhance creativity and positive thinking.

What amused me is that the question brought up this hexagram, T'ung Jen Concording People (Fellowship with Men). The assessment of the present situation was "The union of men appears here in the remote districts of the country, indicating progress and success. It will be advantageous to cross the great stream. It will be advantageous to maintain the firm correctness of the superior man."

This seems pretty straight forward. The hexagram is about creating harmony with others and our favorite senator has indeed been visiting remote (to a MA Senator) districts of the country to create this harmony. Crossing the great stream means keeping centered with the flow of time (he makes good use of his time). And he always maintains the "firm correctness of the superior man."

Change is not seen in the immediate future, so the status quo will remain (per the question, the bitching and complaining over the "stolen election") for the time being.

The hexagram is broken down into two trigrams, the top three and the bottom three. The top trigram describes that which is apparent and the bottom trigram describes that which is hidden or not as well known.

Here the top trigram indicates "strength and creativity" while the bottom trigram indicates "brightness (or light) and warmth" ...you can interpret these how you will, but I'd say these describe Senator Kerry's attributes quite correctly.

The meaning I take this very simplistic reading is that he's doing the right things to bring people together and while no immediate change is looming, the senator's got the superior qualities to succeed: his obvious strength and creativity and his lesser-known qualities of brightness and warmth. No immediate change, but he's headed in the right direction.

edit: I didn't realize people would want an acutal explanation. I'm probably so used to this that I took a lot for granted. It might help if you could see the hexagram.

This hexagram is called T'ung Jen. It symbolizes fellowship with man.

Six horizantal bars comprise the hexagram. The two short bars are considered a broken bar.

The trigrams are comprised of the top three bars and the the bottom three bars.

10. Thanks DD - I was completely lost too
as I really know nothing about I ching.

The answer as you explain it makes sense -and it seems reasonable. (I like the nuance in he's doing the right things and has the superior qualities to succeed - which implies it's possible. The no immediate change is actually (unfortunately true))

12. I was just passing time using an online generator...like tossing dice.
But I am attempting to study I Ching. Just so you don't think I'm a total nutcase, I'm not trying to predict the future or anything like that.

It was created as a tool for divination, true, but I Ching can help you to open up a dialog with your unconscious mind as well. It can help you sort out things that you know deep down but don't consciously realize.

The random aspect (generating the hex) is like putting out a page to the spirit world, to your spirit guides or guardian angels, if you will. I don't personally have any hard and firm convictions about the existence of a spirit world but through reading about quantum mechanics, I've come to believe there is a special kind of connectivity in the universe.

You look at a hex generated in reply to a question (usually a personal one...I was just funning with the JK question) and you ruminate on it. You study the possible implications as they apply to your situation. Perhaps you are also communicating with a spiritual guide who will help you in your decision or to acheive the answers you seek. Maybe it is just a dialog with your own inner spirit. Either way, it is a great mental and spiritual exercise.

13. Thank you
That was very interesting. It would be kind of sort of like reading a horoscope that struck you as relating to JK so you posted it; kind of sort of. Yes??

It does sound very much like him, although things staying the same is discouraging. :(

14. Yes.
It did strike me as a fair assement of the situation and his ability to handle it.

No quick fix predicted, sad to say. These things usually take time, but what a nasty couple of days it has been!
