My husband just got his notification letter from the VA
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 06:19 PM by fedupinBushcountry
Yep he is on the list. Reading the letter it also implies that some spouses information was also in that data bank. Oh and letter was forwarded by the IRS, because the VA does not have our info any longer.

So here is what they advise us to do:

Don't accept any calls claiming to be from the VA.

They have no evidence that the info has been misused. ( So in other words just sit back and make sure you keep track of all your financial holdings, credit cards, bank accounts etc., because we are not going to do anything about it.

Now, I'm wrong about that, it states that the pResident's Theft Task Force, DOJ and FTC are investigating and will develop safeguards against similar incidents. The VA will be making their employees take 2 courses "VA Cyber Awareness Course ( how long has the computer been around ) and General Employee Privacy Awareness. They have to have these courses done by 6/30/06.

Oh and if we do see any weird things going on with any of our accounts then we notify the VA, nope wrong, we have to notify the FTC.

So its just another "Heck of a good job" scenario.

1. This is the plain bizarre!
Why? Why the hell was the security of this information compromised in this way?

I read the article about the teens who sold the equipment and MAY have erased the data:

Unbelievable!

4. I'm so sorry that you and your husband have to go through this
You know, it's the incompetence, stupid. I hope that our idiot government can halfway get their act together, and come up with a better plan than waiting for individuals to have their identity stolen to DO something. I hope the people DEMAND this, and get it.

5. I cannot get over how this even happened.
My hubby was in the reserves, but we haven't gotten anything from them.
I dunno if that is a good or bad thing.

How many incompetents does it take to run an administration?

6. Wow...
the VA's employees will have to take courses by 6/30/06. You and your husband must feel so relieved about that, FedUp.

"VA Cyber Awareness Course" = :freak:
