1. I've finally thought this thru, JK.... and I think it comes down like this
I think Kerry's intent in supporting Webb is as a LARGER PICTURE thing - to completely turn around in ONE ELECTION CYCLE, the conventional wisdom BULLSHIT LIE that Democrats are "perceived weak on national security" - - - and by supporting as many military Democrats for election as they can, the NUMBERS game could be persuasive by the NEXT election cycle.

2. I think that's true
However, I think it will take a while to change that perception that Democrats are strong on defense and national security. It's really unfair really since it was our party that was in the White House during the nation's two biggest wars of the last century. More I think about it though I guess we need some way to change our perception. I think Kerry was right to talk about service to country during hte last election.

3. Yep - it took a leap forward and that's what needed to be done.

4. During my grandparents and their generations time
Service was something to be proud of. We need that spirit back in our country. I still think about enlisting because I feel like giving something back. That attiude though is hard to find regrettably.

7. The forward momentum
should continue because Bush is in a lose-lose situation of his own creation, and for too long he has pretended all was well when that was far from reality. Also, as the Dubai debacle showed, Bush and his gang are only interested in perception as long as it doesn't interfere with their objectives.

8. Thanks
Don't know what's going to happen yet but I do expect the Democrats to make nice gains in the fall.

9. I think, though, that you should come up with your own reasons
For me, Kerry's endorsement wasn't enough. I needed to go through all of the pros and cons and come to a decision separate from Kerry. Of course, his endorsement was a factor in my decision, but it certainly wasn't the only factor. Probably Schumer, with the power of the DSCC letterhead, endorsing Webb also helped sway me. This means that big money will flow into Virginia if Webb is the nominee. One cannot overlook Party power either. It's not the only thing, and had Miller been a first class candidate I might have not been influenced by that, but Miller is a nominal Dem at best, and holds nearly all the same positions as Webb. He's missing the "branding" that I was talking about in the other thread.

Anyway, I'm interested in what you decide, John, so let us know when you decide (even if it ends up being at the polls!).

10. Whats gotten me honestly confused
is that Webb seems to be running an outsider campaign but yet he's been backed by quite a few members of the senate including Reid, Schumer, and Kerry who are biggies because Reid of course is the highest ranking dem in the senate, Schumer is DSCC chair, and Kerry was our nominee two years ago. I like that Miller has a lot of backing from local politicans and such but I don't like a lot about him too. They say Webb is the only one who can beat Allen but honestly I don't see what would make it any easier for him to beat Allen than Miller. He's been very broad when he talks about issues. Miller to his credit has talked about more. I am still undecided and probably will be at the polls. I still don't like the remarks Webb made about those protesting Vietnam. I realize he and Kerry have patched their differences up but it wasn't only Kerry that his op-eds dissed. I appreciate and sincerely admire Webb's service to his country but I think it's a mistake to assume that makes him the best candidate. Miller's running a very negative campaign hasn't endeared me to him at all. Yet I don't like how vague Webb has been and how most of his supporters seem to say that he's the only one who can beat Allen. I don't see any proof that Webb could beat Allen any more than Miller honestly. Neither of them have run for office in this state I believe though I think I read somewhere that Miller did.

12. Miller
ran for Congress in '84, but I have no idea who he was up against and at the time I was living in California and still a resident of N.Y.

I think whoever wins will have a hardtime beating barfbag. It needs to be brought out just how many times barfbag voted against the best interest of the troops and many other rubberstamped votes.

14. That was also three years before I was born
Yeah I think you're right because Allen was whether we like it or not a popular governor, now a senator either one of them will have an uphill battle.

11. Glad your grandpa is better
It is really hard when people get old and start getting sick and things. Hopefully your grandpa will keep getting better and be around for a long time yet.

13. i say go with Miller
since you have the same feelings on Webb that i have. unless you can feel you have reason to want to support Webb over Miller.

are you going to attend the Kerry Webb rally ? maybe that might help you in your decision.

and glad to hear about your grandfather.
