Anyone know of any lightweight collapsible stands for us shorties?
Tonight I've learned that I need to be able to look over crowds..

So, any ideas of what to search on when looking for something I can strap to my camera bag, unfold, and stand on/move quickly/collapse easily?

1. M-60? BAR? M-14?
Any of those should solve your crowd problems, brother.

2. Well, with a hasty sling I could use the front sight post of an M16
as the upper step. But I'm looking for something less likely to have the local S.W.A.T. unit called - despite the really cool photos THAT would provide :D

7. Nothing beats a claymore for line-of-sight clearing.

Portable, compact. easy set-up, quick ... even more perfect with a curb backing.

8. Hell, how about I just call in an airstrike on myself
I understand you're familiar with that, and I'm sure at least ONE of my shots would make the cover of Newsweek  ;-)

10. Well, Puff is good but napalm makes too much smoke for clear photos.
Willie Pete is great for low light shots, though. A few slowly-descending illumination flares creates some awesome shadow effects.

12. Okay, how about I call in my good pal Artie

after the targeting round I'll take my shots, and as I'm leaving I'll call in the rest of the H.E. mission just so those guys on the other end don't get worked up over nothing, and everyone's happy :-)

5. Well, you'd want to adapt the "look" to blend in with the crowd
and be less obtrusive:

A practical answer from a veteran which doesn't involve the annihilation of my subject?

Good idea

11. Hehehe.
You might also find something workable if you poke around for hunting supplies and the like. More than likely there are some durable stools and stands available for when you're waiting in a blind, etc.

13. Rubbermaid makes small folding step stools.
they're light and inexpensive. It weighs less than 7lbs and holds up to 300lbs.

14. Another option:

Rubbermaid 776800 Step Stool Tool Box

I saw these the other day. They are very strong and stable.
If you know you are going in to a crowd situation, you could pack your camrea gear in the "Step Box". It has a handle on the top for carrying. You would have all your lenses and accessories readily available plus a portable "step".

17. Wow. Leave it to her to come up with
something that does not blow up or break the sound barrier somehow.

Good work. I may even buy one.
