Another question - because I'm in a questioning mood today.
:) When we were on our hike, I used the polarizing filter on my lenses because it was pretty hazy that day. I would turn it until it looked like I wanted and then shoot according to what the meter in the camera said, but many of the pictures turned out on the dark side (fixable with Paint Shop, but I was hoping to avoid that). Do you need to increase the exposure time or something when you're using this filter? Kick it up a notch or two?

1. The polarizing filter acts as a variable neutral density filter
Which can cut down the light by up to 2 stops. I think but I'm not certain that the variability is contingent on the rotation of the filter. That might account for only some of the shots being darker than you intended.

2. It's all trial and error, isn't it?
Maybe one day I'll get all this stuff right.

3. You could try multiple versions of the same shot
With the filter turned to different degrees. That might at least give you a ballpark idea of how much an exposure will be affected by the filter.

At least it's possible to compensate for problems like this in the digital darkroom, thank God.
