My first post here -- please be gentle!
Ralps suggested I post these here. They are from Tiger in Detroit last night. The lighting was so interesting last night, I just had to take these shots.

I wouldn't mind a critique.

7. Thank you, Blue_In_AK
I've only had my digital camera a few months and try to remember to bring it with me when I think I might see something I want to shoot. It's so nice to be able to get the photos quickly and not to have to wait to use up a roll of film, take it to the drugstore, etc.

When I saw the lighting around the buildings in right field, I knew I had to take these.

3. Hi Sharon
Welcome to the group. I have no critique except that I would have tried to get the outfielder in the bottom photo more towards the bottom of the photo so you wouldn't have ended up with so much green space, and possibly made him more prominent in the photo.

But that is just my opinion and there is no right and wrong in photography. It's all up to how the photographer views the composition.

8. Hi, Raging!
To be honest, I wasn't paying any attention to the outfielder. I liked the lighting of the building and was just trying to get that and the signage. I do have some other shots of players, but they were nothing special. I zoomed in as much as I could, but it was close enough to get the players very well. My little digital is nothing like your professional equipment with your great lenses, etc.

I appreciate your comments, though. I'm sure I could learn a lot from you.

4. Hi Sharon
:hi: welcome to the photogroup, my other DU home. One of the two places that I haven't seen trouble makers. Great pics in a difficult situation (seats in a stadium that was crowded.)

5. We are always gentle, Sharon.
Although you will have to put up with some bad puns from some of us. (*whistles nonchalantly*)

Night shots are hard because it takes a steady hand to get good shots in low light. You must have a pretty steady hand! The Comerica Park shot is poignant--commercialized America at its finest. You could probably straighten it out in a PhotoShop kind of program. But other than that shot being a bit askew, I think this is an admirable first showing. Welcome! :hi:

10. I appreciate the warm welcome I've received from everyone
It's another safe place at DU from the looks of it. (The other is the Countdown/KOEB group, where I spend most of my time.)

13. "commercialized America" indeed
I wish, somehow, I could use a camera to make the ticky-tacky ugliness more evident but, sadly, we're becoming so indoctrinated to the bombardment of signage and snake-oil that we tend to treat it as "urban flora."

Having been away from Detroit for 30 years, I see it with eyes that keenly recall far, far less "Beirut" and "Vegas" and far more nostalgia for the times when its urban landscape reflected the rise of the blue collar middle class and their collective efforts to build a vibrant city. Detroit, for all its flaws, once portrayed a people who valued the local leisure pursuits of a 40-hour working class. Briggs Stadium (later called Tiger Stadium) was one of the "crown jewels" of MLB ... a monument to green, not greed. Prior to the first strike in 1967, I was often a "bleacher bum" - enjoying the sunshine, Al Kaline, and hot dogs that didn't cost more than steak.

I cannot stomach the stadia today ... anti-democratic consumer abattoirs that they are. The affluent often pay nothing as they enjoy the "company box" while the poor can't afford to attend other than on special occasions. Baseball should've never been "gentrified" - but all professional sports have become so, as almost nothing more than an extension of the marketing departments of corporations in both cronyism of attendance and the plethora of signage.

11. Hi SharonRB, It's great to see you here & I didn't even notice the
outfielder in the 4th photo until RagingInMiami pointed him out. He almost blends into the grass. Great photos. :hi: :loveya:  :pals: :woohoo:

12. Thanks for posting these, SharonRB
My credo is that there's no such thing as a baseball-themed pic that isn't great. Though these make me nostalgic for Tiger Stadium...
