1. People (if you can call them that) who
abuse or abandon animals and children are worthless scum. Best of luck finding a forever home for that sweet pup. :hi:

2. OMD! Sara (no "H") was the first name that came to mind when I saw her!
Was the name a of a beloved Lab my little sister once had...actually Sarazar...Sara for short.

 Am glad you took her in...for now.

4. Thanks all
Now there is a name that just might work, Whoa_Nelly :-)

Believe me folks - this dog will either end up in a "good" home or she's gonna get stuck with me!

3. A wonderful, but sad, example of photography as truth-telling.
Your technical skills, finding the right point of focus and DOF, make the photo communicate. What it says about our proper relationship to other beings on this small planet, and about those who deny that reality and interconnectedness is very intense and strongly felt for me at least.

The photo is not only a great portrait, it carries a message that everyone must hear if we are to survive.

5. Beautiful portrait
extremely heartbreaking and angering story. Hate to tell you this but unless you try really hard and fight it looks like she has found her forever home. Look at those eyes imploring you to show her that people can be trusted with her love.

I would write a letter to the editor of the local paper about how you found both dogs. You never know but the asshole that left them might read it and maybe his family will read it and get pissed. Also it would serve as a good warning to any other assholes that were thinking it would be a good place to drop off their dogs or cats.

6. How about Hope, because that's what I see in her precious face.
This is a lovely portrait. Thank you for taking her in. I hate seeing "stray" dogs. I always try to get them to come to me, so I can check for collars. I've been able to reconnect a couple of dogs with their owners this way.

Beautiful pup, and a beautiful shot!

9. "Hope" was the name that also came to me immediately.
I didn't mention it because I wanted a similar word that conveyed more of the nuances conveyed by that excellent portrait. "Hope tentatively and precariously reborn and maybe realized." I think some compound word in German or maybe some subtle shading in Japanese calligraphy might express that, but mechanistic English just doesn't seem to get there with less than a paragraph.

10. There is this...
SAKI
Gender: Feminine

Usage: Japanese

Other Scripts: 咲希 (Japanese)

From Japanese 咲 (sa) "blossom" and 希 (ki) "hope".

Hope blossoms or blossoming hope.

11. Absolutley Perfect!
That is definitely his/her true name. Other languages include modifiers to include such shadings and subtleties, but English seems to encourage categorical (all or nothing) thinking. See Chimpy And The Morons for the worst case consequences.

8. What a beautiful baby!
IF you cannot keep her and you're in the DC area (your profile says SC though), you can contact MiniMe here on DU. She is a volunteer with the Lab Rescue in the DC area.

But I too think Sara (or Hope -- love both names) has found a home.

(Ya might like to cross post in the Pet forum or the Animal Rights forum.)

She is indeed a beauty. WHY would anyone do this?? Go to the trouble of buying a gorgeous Lab, getting her shots, then dumping her? Only fuckers!

Big hugs to YOU for doing the right things .... and thanks for posting.

13. to happier times
Dixie (as she has come to be known in these parts) is doing just fine. Vet pegs her at 7 to 8 months old and in fine health.
