While I love digital photography I have hated transferring memory cards to my computer. I have no less than 6 card readers ranging between $10 and $75. The fastest transfer I can do has been 2 gig card in around 25 minutes. My wife's computer is newer and better than mine and it is about the same. Further, while downloading cards I can't do anything else on my computer...it all but locks it up.
After some research I found that the possible answer may be a portable memory card reader. Further research led me to Sanho Hyperdrives. I ordered a 160 gig Sanho Hyperdrive Colorspace UDMA. I just tried it out...wow! I transferred a 2 gig card in less than 2 minutes! We took around 20 gigs of photos on a recent vacation. I transferred all 20 gigs in less than 15 minutes (an 8 gig card took just over 5 minutes)! Next was transfer speed via USB to my computer. Around 3.5 minutes to transfer a 2 gig card. It took around 25 minutes to transfer the other 18 gigs! So in around 45 minutes I have 2 copies of all 20 gigs of photos and now feel safe in reformatting my cards.
