5. Will someone PLEASE tell me whether Rudy is lying, or Keith lied?
Keith led Countdown for two or three or maybe four nights with the "Sex On the City" story.

Now Tweety is saying it was all entirely false, that the NYT admitted Rudy was completely and utterly on the up and up, and still going on and on about how unfair it is that St. Rudy lost 10 points in the polls on what was ultimately proven to be a FALSE accusation against him.

Well???? Anyone???? Bueller?????

9. Why? Because they were embarrassed????
I've asked this before, but if the NYT went with this story and Keith went with this story and neither one of them had a shred of proof, or they went off entirely half-cocked about it, what the F is happening to journalism?

And what the F is happening to KEITH?

Crap like this only makes him more vulnerable to the right-wing wackos and their accusations that he NEVER tells the truth, that he ALWAYS lies about Republicans for no better reason other than his irrational hatred of them.

11. I think....
that Keith is much too big of a man, and journalist, to quibble over a point which is, really, a distraction from the subject at hand.

In other words, Tweety is bloviating, and Keith is silently rolling his eyes. :)

16. But that doesn't answer my basic question...
Whether it affects the results or not...

Was Keith's story a lie? Is Tweety telling the truth?

Did Keith lead off his show night after night with a slur against someone that turned out to be entirely false?

That's all I'm asking.

I mean, what if Tweety led off his show for night after night with a false story about Obama being a Muslim? And Obama lost 10 points in the polls and lost tonight?

Would we all say that was irrelevant?

Just asking.

22. OK, but that still doesn't answer the question.
Was the story about Rudy incorrectly billing his trysts with Judith to the taxpayers by burying the expenses illegally in other various accounts true, or was it false?

Was this scandal that Democrats and other Rudy-haters, and Keith, crowed about for days and days and days, false?

27. I haven't heard that at all.
But, as you all know, I really haven't been around DU much in December. As far as I know, I think the story still stands. But someone said "Look at the bright, shiny object" and everyone went elsewhere.

It would also seem to me that if the story was proven wrong, Keith would own up to it.

And, ultimately, we all know that Tweety is full of shit. For some reason, he feels the need to prove that over and over and over....

He's always kissed Rudy's ass. But all that aside...is he right?

That's all I want to know.

And if he is, why doesn't Keith apologize for having led off his news show with a completely false story for several nights in a row? He can apologize for uncharitable things said about David Vitter's wife's dress. Why can't he apologize about something way more important?

Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 10:08 PM by BerryBush
Keith has always struck me as a believer in fairness and the principles of journalism above all else. I know we all hate Rudy and if it turns out that a scandalous story about him is not true after all, some of us would just as soon forget about it and sweep it under the rug. But Keith made hay out of it--a LOT of hay--in a journalistic sense. I'm not saying he was the only one--far from it--he didn't break it, after all (Politico did, right?). But he ran with it, and as a result, if it is completely false, he owes it to us to say as much.

That's just Journalism 101. And if he doesn't, it makes him look just as horribly biased as the Keith-haters always say he is.

On edit: OK, here's the situation. No matter how much I use the Google, I cannot find ANY proof that the Rudy's Love Shack story has been entirely and thoroughly discounted. The ONLY update on it remains that NYT story from back on 12/21 in which they say that it's "unlikely" that Rudy billed his travel expenses in any shady way. That's IT!

And yet, Tweety is claiming on the basis of that, that Rudy has been completely exonerated, and of course all the right-wing blogs jumped on it like a chicken on a bug and spun it as complete exoneration of Rudy, too. They also excoriated the NYT for "burying" said exoneration on page A21.

Am I crazy, that I don't read "unlikely" as a complete exoneration?

Even the headline says "Giuliani's Office Shifted Money Around? Yes. To Hide Hamptons Trips? Unlikely."

To me, that's not exoneration.

And it makes me think that when I ask who the real journalist is--Tweety or Keith--again, I know the answer will NOT be Tweety.

*sigh*

67. Chris began that mantra
the day that second NYT story came out. There is no new news. That's his story, and he's sticking to it.

IIRC, that story said that money was spent, and some of it was accounted for correctly. Yet it didn't disprove the affair, the money being spent, or some odd accounting at all.

94. And that was exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you.
The story certainly didn't disprove the affair (I don't think he was trying to do that) and that was still pretty skanky, even if he never spent a taxpayer dime on it. But that wasn't the real point, the point was, were the accounting insinuations false? The only answer so far seems to be "maybe" or "yeah, some of them, but not necessarily all."

And I imagine we won't hear about it again until someone comes up with something more concrete.

But in the meantime, Tweety blathers on and on as if Rudy never did anything wrong, and how unfair it is that he lost those 10 poll points over "nothing." Even Rudy himself doesn't seem to be as hung up on it as Tweety is (maybe because he'd really PREFER that everyone forget it lest something even more unsavory come to light).

Tweety is an ass.

28. A hit and run.
:hi: all.

I was flipping between two channels on tv and watching the site for numbers. Gave up on reading threads and hoping I can see some of what I missed of Keith on replay. My question, has Iowa ever been this close for the top three? That is the bigger news to me and keeps all 3 top runners viable. I am trying to listen to Keith and close my ears to all the other talking heads so people like Tweety don't piss me off. Not working to good though. Tweety, women do not vote because of someones sex, race or looks but for what they stand for, same goes for Obama voters. Only repukes and you are that shallow.

Also isn't it time Obama was added to spell checks.

118.  I know how you feel
My boy Sheridan just turned 12 on Dec 21 and most books say the avg lifespan for a Golden is about 10 to 12 years. So I consider every day we have together a gift.

I know I will have to face losing him one day, but he's healthy and still so much a puppy that I think we will have a while yet. This woman on a Golden site I belong to had her Golden live to 19 years old and he was very healthy for most of it. So who knows.

Give your other babies a big hug. I've never owned a ferret. I've had gerbils and hamsters in the past. Not the same I realize, but ferrets fascinate me. I saw a show on my locate PBS station about 2 wks ago about this ferret show in Ohio, where people who raised them brought them to be judged, like a dog or cat show. It was interesting.

Ter was on the road for xmas. He gets home late Friday night and leave again Mondays afternoons so he was in Indiana Christmas day. I am used to it so play the Wii all day and just relaxed. We just had our quiet Christmas on Sunday. No renovating that weekend. Back to it this weekend though.

I really want to see the numbers broken down. How much did 'what about Mitt' spend per caucus voter as opposed to Huckabee who spent nothing.

And I'm seeing Wes Clark Jr. for the first time, very nice, very funny, great voice, but he has no lips.

in the general. He also think Huckabee will survive the primaries and put Ghouliani away in Fla-la-la.

I'm actually very excited about Obama, more so than I thought I would be. Its very thrilling.
Hillary is dropping below the 30% mark.
Cenk and Ben just asked Richard Wolfe why the media hates Edwards so much, and imho he got very defensive in his answer.

79. Sorry to be so cranky, folks
but journalistic values mean something to me. The fact that I feel Keith reflects true journalistic values is the only reason I watch him and admire him. If the day ever comes when I really believe that he's picking on people he doesn't like politically just to pick on them, with no regard for the truth, I cannot and will not be a fan.

But. But. The big trouble here is that it is damn difficult to find out what the truth really is. Yes, we can now look up anything we want on the Internets from the comfort of home, but when we do, we have to wade through all the crap and shit and spin by all the bloggers and other slanted news sources to try to find out what's really going on. It was almost easier back in the days when we had to go to the library and research stuff on paper in publications that our library might not even have a copy of yet.

In the words of John Lennon, "Just gimme some truth."

But this is the second time he's said this, and I keep thinking, "Did I miss something?" I wouldn't be able to help it; I'd be thinking "Did I miss Obama announcing that he really IS Muslim?"

candidate. Iowans have never sent a female politician to Congress and the highest a woman has ever gotten in state politics is Lt. Governor. Ole Tweety said what I've alwys thought tonight: Black men got the vote before women of any color. So if Obama beats Hillery for the nomination it would'nt surprise me. It must be a cultural thing. 125. Just saw in the comments over at the Cenk and Ben show
that CNN is reporting that Dodd has dropped out. I'm not surprised, but it's so sad to me. I hope he become majority leader or gets a cabinet post. I have a feeling Biden won't be far behind, which is also sad.

141. Well, everyone, I better get to bed
Sorry I won't be able to do this the night of the NH primary. We have our monthly county Dems meeting that night, although I might be home by 10 or so.

See y'all tomorrow.

142. If this country wants to continue its slide
into a theocratic society...they will elect Huckabee. I don't give a damn what anyone says, that man will turn us into one.

He will always...always insert his religious beliefs into his decisions if he were President.

He scares the HELL out of me.

152. Scares me, too.
My only hope is that neocons find him as frightening as we do and, hence, will do what it takes to ensure he doesn't make it.

Sorry, Mitt, but I think you just may be Michelle Kwan.

Good for you, Barry. Now get rid of the evangelical ex-gays as your supporters and I'll feel a lot better about you.

160. I keep waiting for him to say "Hope...
"Hope is the thing with feathers/That perches in the soul..."

Seriously, I just read that NYT piece about Huckabee and what a hick he is. What a hoot. You could make a sitcom out of it if he got into the White House: "The Washington Huckabee Hillbillies."

Oh well, goodbye Biden, goodbye Dodd. More X's on Keith's candidate portrait.

Wow, Tweety sounds like he's running out of steam. Does he need a donut?

163. Listening to Fineman, I'm realizing something stunning.
I mean, in the back of my head I knew this for a long time (especially with all the fuss we got into here one night over who is a baby boomer and who is not), but it's really hitting me now that it might actually be possible for Obama to become president.

And that if he does, we will not only have a black president, we will, for the first time in my life, have a president MY AGE.

That hit me like a ton of bricks. Just like the first time I saw the birth and death dates of Princess Diana and a chill went through my body as if I were looking at my own tombstone.

Part of me says "I don't feel that old." But part of me also says "Obama doesn't look that old. So maybe neither of us is old."

And I finally understood viscerally why so many people his age got so excited when JFK was elected. In a way I never have before.

Guess I'll keep watching Keith until he signs off, most likely at midnight, but sign off online.

G'night folks. I'm off to dream sweet dreams of a minty Keith and a Dem president.
