18. I believe that's the first episode.
Geraldine wasn't welcomed by her own parish, so she decided to reach out to the community and have a Blessing of the Animals service, and tons of people showed up.
I tried that in Algoma, and about six people showed up.
Then again, I didn't serve doggie-communion.

I hope I can make it to the live thread tomorrow, but I may not be able to--just got word that my younger sis's ex-MIL has finally succumbed to her cancer. Sad. Don't know when the calling hours and funeral will be but I will attend.

59. Blessing the animals is an annual event...
...usually held close to the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, which is October 4th.

http://www.americancatholic.org/features/francis/blessing.asp

As autumn arrives, people in various places may notice something odd.

A procession of animals, everything from dogs and cats to hamsters and even horses, is led to churches for a special ceremony called the Blessing of Pets.

This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.

My cousin, who has been known to take her beloved (and adorable) doggies for the blessing, swears you might see a horse or two standing outside the church.
