Am I Just Being Paranoid?
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 04:29 AM by Syrinx
I've only seen the C-SPAN show once, and I don't have it taped, but did anyone else notice something potentially sinister when Brian Lamb asked Keith about his private life? I sensed a bit of insinuation there and was wondering if anyone else picked up on that. Too much time on my hands, I guess. :)

1. You mean when he said "I'm not sure you want us to know"
or something like that? "We don't know a lot about your personal life--I'm not sure you want us to know"?

Well, you can take it one of two ways:

1. He was implying Keith has something to hide, or might have something to hide.

2. He was implying maybe Keith is one of those people who likes keeping his private life private. Not because he has anything to hide, or because he fears how others might react to knowing about it, but because he simply values his privacy and doesn't think it's something all celebrities and semicelebrities should have to surrender at the door.

I'm inclined to go with 2. And I'm inclined to think that he's right.

2. I'll go one further...
I don't think Keith is comfy at all with the notion that he's a semi-celebrity. He's "just" a journalist, doing his job, and having fun at the same time. He probably wonders why we don't inquire about the private lives of the garbage collector, postal carrier, and the occasional female pastor instead. :)

3. so did you hear the story about the female pastor getting caught
with Brett Favre and KO... Horrible I say! Horrible!

You know, some people have a few skeletons in their closet... some of us have... a little more than that. :O

Here's to privacy!!!!

In all seriousness, KO seems like an intensely private guy. Like he doesn't buy into the whole sensationalistic stuff. He probably doesn't even think he's all that interesting. I would imagine he wouldn't ever fully get why anybody would be all that interested in him anyway. He just strikes me like that.

4. Yeah - that "I'm just an ordinary guy"
is one of his most charming features. :loveya:

5. if memory serves, I've read an article in the last year or two where KO
said that his private life is private. Since Lamb clearly did his homework on KO, he's probably seen that quote. It's natural for him to want to ask the question, but sensible for him to ask the question in a way that lets KO demur gracefully. I didn't get anything out of it other than that.

Dumbest Question Ever IMHO was about whether 9/11 had had a lasting effect on KO. :eyes:

8. I think Keith is very private
and he probably wants it that way after having reported so frequently on all the celebs over the years. He sees how it affects them and wishes to keep his life as private as possible.

And I can't say I blame him--all things considered.

9. I certainly don't blame him
As someone who married a bit later than is "normal" :eyes: I can remember the clumsy match-making attempts of acquaintances. My close friends knew better. Although they might have had parties where some of the guests included men they thought would be interesting to me, it was never that horribly obvious let's-shove-these-two-people-together-and-look-on-expectantly-as-if-they're-animals-in-the-zoo sort of thing. And the worst thing about that sort of set-up is that if you meet anyone that way who might be halfway interesting, any chance you ever had of having a relationship is pretty much suffocated by the scrutiny of everyone following every single interaction you have, looking for portents of Earth-shattering romance. You're almost afraid to have even the most casual of conversations for fear that one of the on-the-spot reporters will declare that You Are An Item when all you're really trying to find out is whether or not it would be a hideous mistake to meet this guy for a drink. Multiply that by a thousand, and that's probably what KO's life has been like.

And after that little, "I'm trying to not be single" bit, oh man... why not just paint a target on your boxer-briefs? He may spend as much time dodging the ladies this next year as Ruth's dad. (Cheese, have you warned your dad that he's likely to become a target of the little old ladies, especially if he's got his own teeth? Not kidding here.)

10. Oh, they're already all over him.
You should see the way they grab his hand to say "I'm so sorry.... if there's anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to call."

I told him to beware the blue-haired crowd. He rolled his eyes, and said "you don't need to worry about that."

11. I don't think so.
Maybe a lot of women sent in letters persuading him to ask about Keith's personal life. I'm glad he asked, because I didn't know Keith was single. And plus Brian is a bachelor, from what I heard.
