Doctor found a mass in my left breast today
I went for my gynelogical exam today and the doctor found a 3x4 cm mass in my left breast. It's the same breast that I had another lump in five years ago, which was biopsied and found to be benign. I am praying that it's nothing, but I dread going through the whole process again especially since I don't have health insurance this time around. Please pray for my peace of mind. I am 38 years old and really hope that this is nothing serious.

1. Chances are it's nothing, but be smart and have it removed!
I am a 12 year breast cancer survivor, who knows quite a bit about lumps in the breast. Did you have a mammogram or sonogram of the breast yet? Make an appt. w/ a surgeon asap to get your piece of mind.

2. My mammogram is next Wednesday
I wish it were sooner so I didn't have to wait. Is removal better than needle or stereotactic biopsy?

3. Needle biopsy's are good, they can tell what is in the lump,
but my concern is not that...what doctors don't tell you is that if you leave a non-cancerous lump/tumor in your breast, it could turn into cancer, it could take months even years before this happens, it could be hormonally caused or not. My best advice to you, and I give this to every woman I meet is to have the lump taken out.

Good luck and relax, chances are it's nothing...believe me, I do understand how you are feeling. If the mammogram doesn't show them anything, demand a sonogram and then a needle biopsy. Keep me "abreast" of your situation. I'll be thinking of you.

4. Thank you so much
It's good to take time to smile and take it seriously all at the same time. Your experience and wisdom are much appreciated. I'm sorry for what you had to go through to make you so wise.

5. You're welcome!
When I was diagnosed there were NO young women to talk too (I was only 28). I vowed then to help every young woman I could. 12 years later I'm helping many cancer survivors by volunteering at a local university hospital. Good luck!

17. they didn't even
DO a needle biopsy on mine.

I have to go back in 6 mos for another mammogram........

They think it's just a benign lump from what they see - based on a comparison from a mammo 5 yrs ago. (The doctor didn't find it, the mammogram did.)

Should I get a biopsy done?

10. Update
I'm back from my mammogram and the doctor recommends I have this lump removed. He doesn't thing it's cancerous-- GREAT NEWS! However, he says you can never be sure without a biopsy. I asked about the lump I had biopsied five years ago and the doctor told me that it is completely gone-- MORE GREAT NEWS!

Thank you all for your support.

12. I am so glad for you!
{hugs}

Sadly, a coworker was just diagnosed Monday with breast cancer. She is devastated. She is taking some time off and is going in for surgery on Tuesday. Then, depending on what they find (sentinel node biopsy, etc.) she will discuss with her doctor about what to do that is the best way to treat it.

18. Update on Surgery
The surgery went well. I will know the results of the biopsy in a few days. I'm a little tired, but all in all very happy that this is over. Even if I don't respond directly, I want you all to know how much your support has meant to me over the past couple of months. THANK YOU!!!!

23. That is truly the best news!!!
FYI since you have had a cyst removed, there is a chance you could get more...just be on the look out and them removed.

My mother in-law is having a lump removed on Friday, she's has pre-cancerous cells removed about 9 years ago, I'll be worrying about her now.

Again, glad to hear everything worked out well for you!
