I was going to treat myself today
Since I've been doing so good working out and eating right. I was going to go to Skyline Chili and have a meal that I used to eat all the time there. Skyline Chili is a popular restaurant in southwestern Ohio that serves chili, chili dogs, chili spaghetti, garlic bread, and such. I used to get 3 cheese chili dogs and a large 5 way. A 5 way has spaghetti, onions, beans, meat sauce (what they call chili), and a large mound of cheddar cheese.

I figured I ought to look up how many calories that was like I do most food that I eat now days. It turned out to be 2230. I was shocked. It also contained twice the sodium that you are supposed to in an entire day.

I haven't eaten there in two months and it doesn't look like I'll be going back. It's a wonder I'm not dropping weight quicker.

1. I have seen on sites that Wendy's chili is a healthful choice
if you want to treat yourself to eating out.

Just a quick google...

2. It's amazing how high in calories some foods can be.
My favorite salad dressing (Green Goddess) is 130 for only two Tbsp. :o

4. That's awesome!
I ate a few things this past week that I shouldn't have, but I took measures to lessen the negative impact. I called out for a pizza for the first time in over a month the other night, but I had them make it with only 1/3 the cheese and all the toppings were veggies. I ate some chicken fingers with it but I stayed pretty much away from the ranch dressing.

Jeanette and I did the math, and it turns out that we can eat at our favorite salad bar every day, getting "to go" containers instead of eating in which actually gives you more food than you could eat in one sitting, and it would cost us about the same as groceries and such per week. So, we're going to do that and try harder to stay away from things we shouldn't be eating.

How about you? Did this whole thing with New Orleans leave you feeling depressed? That and some other personal troubles had me really down, but I'm coming out of it now, thankfully.

6. I've been feeling fine, Gentle Giant
I felt bad for the people affected by the hurricane, but I figured that there wasn't much I could do about it except donate some money. I've been avoiding the news other than what I get here and what I see at the gym. I turned on the TV for some football yesterday and that was probably the first time I turned it on for a month. When I watch the news at the gym (they have TVs stationed right in front of the treadmills) it's just the same footage on continuous loop while the "journalists" do their talking head routines.

If I were independently wealthy and had all the time in the world I would be down in Louisiana or Mississippi somewhere physically pitching in. I'm sure they could use some strong backs down there. As it is, though, I'm just some working class stiff.

5. Wow, it sounds like you can lose weight
just by avoiding that restaurant!

Good for you for giving it up! You were wise to put it in perspective the way you did. I'll bet there are a lot of treats you enjoy that have way fewer calories than that particular meal!

7. You're right
I keep a pint of ice cream in the frige. I'll have one serving of that if I'm have a craving or if I just want to treat myself. That's 300 calories. Ice cream isn't good for you, but I guess it's a lot better than 3 hot dogs and some spaghetti with cheese.

8. You got that right.
I used to go to 7-11 and get 3 or even 4 of their big hot dogs. The 1/3 pound monster ones, or the ones they call Spicy Bites, and drown them in chili, cheese, onions and jalapenos until I could barely close the boxes they came in. At this point, I'd be hard pressed to even eat one of those. Hell, the pizza I had sat in my stomach like a lead brick and I told them to eliminate 2/3 of the cheese.

I had a couple of the small size Lunchables while I was at work today, because I didn't have time to prepare any breakfast or food to bring with me, and there wasn't much to pick from in our vending machines. For dinner, I had whole wheat pasta with low fat marinara sauce and some cubed tofu to make simulated "meatballs". It's really not bad, and unlike the Lunchables has almost no fat.

We'll be going hardcore on the leafy green as soon as I get paid on Friday, going over to the salad bar every evening after work and getting it to go, so there will be enough to last into the next day. That should help my cause considerably.

9. Who says ice cream isn't good for you?
As long as you keep it as a "sometimes food" instead of an "every day food", ice cream can be good for your soul.

Don't ya think?

10. Yeah I guess that's true
If it helps keep me on the straight and narrow then I guess that's a good thing.
