Iran hails "first Islamist Arab state" in Iraq
Edited on Sat Dec-31-05 10:54 AM by Mark E. Smith
Iran Focus

The editorial board of Iran's leading hard-line daily hailed the outcome of Iraq's parliamentary elections as "the creation of the first Islamist state in the Arab world," and warned against "American plots" to prevent the formation of the new Iraq government by Iranian-backed Shiite groups.

"Of the 275 seats in Iraq's new parliament, 140 will belong to pious Islamists, 60 will be occupied by Kurds with excellent ties to Iran, and 40 will belong to Sunni Arabs, most of whom want a sovereign, Islamist state," the Daily Kayhan's Saturday editorial noted. "The new government - including the President, the Prime Minister, the cabinet, the armed forces and the judiciary - will emerge from this new assembly."

Kayhan said the election outcome will "increase pressures, both inside and outside the U.S., on Bush to withdraw American troops from Iraq." "Bush will have to give in and withdraw the bulk of his forces from iraq in the next few months," the daily, which reflects the views of Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, wrote.

Thousands of U.S. military casualties plus $500 billion dollars we didn't have all so Iran could gain control over Iraq.

Out of all Bush's disastrous blunders, this one is by far the worst.

8. Sure. An Islamist Iraq would be proped up by its neighbors.
Less likely to tear itself apart. Perhaps we would get to leave that quagmire sooner.

2. And people still thinks Bush is great at defending us!
Sheesh; Iraq being one example.

Promoting offshoring; with offshored businesses and workers (not to mention the COMPUTER SYSTEMS HOLDING SENSITIVE DATA) now being prime targets...

Why the fuck haven't our congressional folks ON BOTH SIDES take a damn look into ANY of this? They're too busy giving themselves raises and corporations tax cuts, that's why.

3. Mission Accomplished!
Like everything else that Smirk touches, the ME has turned to shit. A complete failure as a student, governor, parent, Resident, and as a man.

4. I think this was the plan.
It follows that we would have to invade Iran, no?

5. That's giving them quite a bit of credit
They thought post-Saddam Iraq would roll over. A Muslim vs US worldwide conflict was more than they bargained for.

6. I don't think they're as dumb as they pretend to be.
I think they knew in advance how Iraq would turn out, just as they knew there were no WMD's. They're evil, yes, but they're not stupid. Karl Rove has a habit of turning Republican lemons into political lemonade. 9/11 was a terrible breach of national security. It happened right under Bush's nose, but, as we know, they turned it into lemonade. Think of all the other times they've turned a liability into an advantage for themselves. It isn't that they're stupid--it's much worse than that.

7. And that's why the common man thinks he's a success! He acts like they do.
And, no, I'm no longer sure who I'm insulting. I just recall the public hyping * up as a man who acts just like the people. I thought it would be... fun... to remind the world of that fact.
