I wish "Brangelina" would speak out against the war on Iraq
You know, I really respect Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for their humanitarian efforts for Africa and elsewhere. They’re clearly concerned about human suffering and are willing to put their time and money towards humanitarian causes. I wish they would use the platform of their enormous popularity to speak out against the Bush administration and its obscene war. After all, it’s the apathetic sheeple who are obsessed with every move this couple makes that need the most education on this subject.

No, better to stay neutral and stay out of politics for Brangelina i believe.

3. I have an interesting anecdote about this...
there were some Iraqi oil workers in D.C. who came as guests of a labor rights group. They were doing the tourist thing and taking pictures next to some black limousines outside a hotel across from the White House, when a woman with holding a baby started screaming at them to stop. Their American guide quickly realized it was Angelina Jolie, who thought they were trying to take pictures of her newly adopted child. Once the guide explained to her who they were, she was very friendly and accomodating to them, gave them her card and asked them to call on her, as she was very interested in their story.

On that same trip to D.C., Brad Pitt wandered into the AFL-CIO building and asked if someone could brief him on U.S. trade policy, which of course, they did.

In my opinion this couple really walks the walk.

4. concerned about Human Suffering
while manipulating the Nigerian government to give them a little
privacy and to enjoy their birth..

they are like most of hollywood's spoiled rotten Children..

a. they have not grown up
b. they have too much money for too little talent
c. they have not spoken out because that might threaten their supply of future movie contracts.

Don't kid yourself. concern for human suffering is as popular in hollywood as madonna's Kaballa bracelet, and equally as authentic (NOT: sarcasm alert).

Besides Pink, Susan Sarandon, Soprano's Boss, Dixie Chicks, Tim, I think the rest of hollywood, and singers in general can go fuck themselves for being quiet during this fascist uprising...

To the rest of HOllywood I lovingly offer you this Leni Riefenstahl "keep quiet and make money on movies while those around you go to the gas chambers" award.....

it's more serious time than ever and time for Angelina to speak her mind and brad too.....

8. So do I have this straight here....
The Dixie Chicks pretty much just say "Bush sucks and the war sucks" and they are somehow heroes.

These 2 (Brad and Angelina) actually travel to these countries, donate their time, their money, and their fame in an attempt to create some modicum of awareness, and they are the ones who are doing nothing?

I love the Dixie Chicks and Susan Sarandon and all that all those people do and I think their speaking out and risking their careers is a bold move. But saying that a couple is selfish because they choose to speak out and donating their time and money to one charity or cause rather than the one WE feel is most important is just as myopic and narrow sighted as we accuse the left of being.

20. I think you are right aboput them,
They are very active in making people more aware of the plight in Afican countries, and for that they should be highly commended.

However, the personal life they have shared with the world is that Brad is a cheater, Angelina is a liar, and I want to vomit every time I hear "Bradgelina".

25. Um, I says pardon?
"while manipulating the Nigerian government to give them a little
privacy and to enjoy their birth."

Perhaps you hadn't heard they gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to maternity services in the area for better care and upgrades?
They may be spoiled, but at least they try to make a difference. Angelina has said that it's her job to keep working for the big bucks so she has more to give away and the recognition of blockbuster movies will keep bringing attention to her causes.
I'd say they are doing more to help than 99.99 % of the people in the US.

27. All good things...
Plus they are NOT in Nigeria... as we've been told a thousand times since they went to Africa, they are actually in Namibia. Not Nambia or Nigeria. NAMIBIA.

I'm glad they are giving money to these places, now I wish that I didn't have to know about it just because I'm awake and read the newspaper in the mornings.

5. Yeah, really. Calling attention to suffering in Africa?
Psssht. I mean why would they choose to do that? Calling attention to and trying to help the suffering in Africa due to poverty and famine and civil war clearly isn't as important as calling attention to the suffering of the Iraqi's. I mean nobody is calling attention to the Iraq war or anything. African suffering is sooooooo 1985.

9. I see them as very much speaking out politically

For them to focus on the needs of Africa makes a huge statement regarding the things they realize that our government is NOT doing.

As I recall, Angelina had to appear at the UN with Condi.

She was so elegant in the way that she did not acknowledge the Evil Woman.

It spoke volumes and their compassion on the NEEDY instead of the GREEDY speaks volumes as well.

10. It wouldn't do any good...
Weren't there rumors that the 2004 election helped lead to Brad & Jen's divorce?

More specifically, Jennifer Anniston thought it was un-patriotic and/or immoral to criticize the president in a time of war because that was, in effect, criticizing the troops. And that was reportedly just what Brad Pitt was doing. Plus, he campaigned for Kerry/Edwards in Missouri.

And I highly doubt that the "apathetic sheeple" (i.e. super-conservative Christian morality voters) are going to listen to Brangelina on subjects of importance as they are probably considered "Hollywood liberals" who should keep their mouths shut about everything of value. According to the "apathetic sheeple" anyway.

I applaud what Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are doing in Africa. I hope they stick to that.

I remember reading what Russ Feingold said about being put on the African Affairs subcommitte when he first got into the Senate. He said that he was happy about it because the western world doesn't try hard enough to understand and help Africa. And, if a fifth of the world's population lives there and you don't try to understand it...why bother trying to understand anything at all.

23. Well, Jennifer's got herself a Republican now
Vince Vaughn is a Bushie who orchestrated a White House tour, complete with a snarky appearance by Dubya himself, for the cast and crew of Wedding Crashers -- as reported in Entertainment Weekly.
Gung-ho for war Vince hasn't found the time, though, to enlist.
I'll take Brad.

15. Would you feel any better about it
if Hillary came out and gave a disingenuous anti-war speech? At least Brangelina would seem to be against the war, even if they haven't been vocal about it. In my book it would put them miles ahead of Hillary on this particular issue.

14. Ugh. I really don't care what they think; they're ACTORS
I wouldn't want Marcus Welby as my GP, either! Or Perry Mason as my lawyer! Any speaking out that they did would probably HELP the Monkey...the old Jane Fonda effect!

They're welcome to their opinion, like anyone else, but that "spokesman" crap is best reserved for diseases in need of a cure, humanitarian relief efforts, and the like. Not POLITICS (and war, as our old pal Von Clausewitz notes, is simply the continuation of politics by other means--brutal means, certainly)...unless they want to get off their asses, formulate a platform, jump in, shake hands, raise money, and run for office like Ahnuld or Helen Gahanan Douglas.

And from all the pictures I've seen, that relationship might well be on the rocks already. That guy looks MISERABLE, and he probably deserves to be, dumping his wife and all that. Oh well, ya make yer bed...!

18. Politics is not exclusively the realm of politicians
The basic principle of democracy is that everyone participates in the governing process. The notion that actors and artists should stick to their jobs and leave governing to professionals is right-wing claptrap.

29. Of course not, look at Reagan, Bono, Ventura, Ahhhhnuld....
...but I really don't care what 'Brangelina' think. They're a distraction from the issues of the day, to my mind. If they were old and wrinkled, or heaven forfend, UGLY, no one would be giving them the press they get. Then they'd have to engage the public with just brainpower, and hope they could get the coverage.
