Ted Nugent says "I am not a coward" for dodging the draft during Vietnam
http://www.pr-inside.com/nugent-ive-made-up-for-missing-vietnam-r6693.htm

NUGENT: 'I'VE MADE UP FOR MISSING VIETNAM'

<snip>The Republican rocker feels awful about avoiding the army in the late 1960s and early 1970s, but he believes he has more than made up for it.

He says, "Do I feel guilt and embarrassment? Yes.
"I wish I'd understood how important America's fight against our enemies was.
"But did I go to Fallujah two years ago? Damn right I did.
"And was I in Afghanistan, manning a 50-calibre machine gun in a Chinook, ready to rock? Yes.
"Was I there for years? No, a couple of weeks. But I am not a coward."

<snip>
According to a widely-circulated account which we’ve never seen refuted, here’s how Mr. Nugent dodged the draft. "He claims that 30 days before his draft board physical, he stopped all forms of personal hygiene. The last 10 days, he ingested nothing but Vienna sausages and Pepsi; and a week before his physical, he stopped using bathrooms altogether, virtually living inside pants caked with his own excrement, stained by his urine. That spectacle won Nugent a deferment, he says. ‘... but if I would have gone over there, I'd have been killed, or I'd have killed, or I'd killed all the hippies in the foxholes...I would have killed everybody.’” -- Detroit Free Press Magazine, July 15, 1990

ON MILITARY SERVICE
He claims that 30 days before his draft board physical, he stopped all

altogether, virtually living inside pants caked with his own excrement, stained
by his urine.  That spectacle won Nugent a deferment, he says. "... but

4. Who would he want armed next to him in a foxhole?
Kerry , an expert marksman who keeps his cool under heavy gunfire and is willing to risk his own life to save his crew, or Bush who couldn't even SHOW UP for guard duty and was afraid of landing planes.

37. Doesn't matter to me if you hate ted or not,
It's still not funny, and your attempt at justification, by saying you wouldn't put anything past the SOB is even less funny.

Some things are not funny, ironic, or helpful, and using Pat Tillman's death to appear funny is un-cool.

during Vietnam the bravest ones reported when drafted, enlisted, went to jail,or went to Canada....Others,less bold took less bold actions, champaign units, gaining or losing weight-you no legal loopholes....but the real cowards faked things-homosexuality and mental illness...the first group took action, the second took steps and the third faked....to which do you belong???
Editted to add-even the third group I can respect if their actions were based on political beliefs....but your actions have should you are plenty enough belligerent to espouse war-just not to engage in it...

24. All Vietnam vets should be outraged at Nugent's claim...
He actually claims that he's "made up for missing Vietnam" by taking a two-week tour in Afghanistan back in 2004???? :wtf:

Ted, be sure to tell vets directly that your two-week visit is the same as a tour of duty in The Nam. Tell that to the men who spent years imprisoned in the Hanoi Hilton. Tell that to the men who endured the Tet Offensive. Tell that to those men who rotated back home to a Republican government that had turned its back on them.

You do that, and then we'll *really* see what your made of. :grr:

I think his comments are a HUGE slap in the face to people who actually served, and to the families of those who died in 'Nam.

member of the Army or Marines carrying a rifle, getting shot at with bombs going off. Otherwise Ted, you are coward and a chickenhawk. Manning a .50 cal on a Chinook for one flight or being there for a couple weeks does not make up for the fact that you cowardly missed your war. Shut the fuck up you worthless piece of shit. Go piss your pants like you did while avoiding the draft for Vietnam.

I'm sure all the families of soldiers who lost their lives in that war will totally understand that going overseas to "rock out with your cock out" for a couple weeks is a huuuuuuuuge sacrifice. You're a real patriot there, Ted. You'll do anything for this country you so love except, you know, actually go into combat. You have certainly earned the right to preach at us unpatriotic liberals about the righteousness of the war, 'cause after all, doing some USO shows "more than makes up for" being a soldier. :sarcasm:

I wonder how many Vietnam vets would agree that doing a USO tour "more than makes up for" draft dodging.
