Immigration divide puts GOP in no-win situation

<snip>A poll conducted May 2-14 by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press found that 19 percent of Republicans contacted named immigration as the most pressing problem facing the country. Only 6 percent of Democrats identified it as the topmost issue.

The biggest issue for Democrats was the war in Iraq.

7. I agree
The Bush-loving Corporatists love open borders, because it's provides a source of cheap labor to help suppress wages. That's why the Bush-loving
U.S.Chamber of Commerce has donated so much money to the open borders activists and lobbyists. They want those illegal immigrants to stay here because they suppress wages, reducing their labor costs and increasing their profits.

Illegal immigration is a true Corporate profit builder.

3. This immigration issue, IMO, is a complete snow job!
Riiiight, pay no attention to our mess in Iraq, pay no attention to our horrid domestic policy, pay no attention to our ballooning deficit, pay no attention to our growing list of scandals...no, immigration is the big issue you should be concerned about!!?!

4. Before it was thrown out there, I saw Dean at a speech and he warned us
that immigration would be the next issue the Republicans were going to throw out like gay marriage was last election.

Looks like I kind of fit in with the Dem's on Iraq being the most important issue to most of us. Doesn't it?

Lets see yours now for comparison.

8. Yup. Problems with education, healthcare, the environment....
The infrastructure or Workers' Rights? Blame a Mexican!

Don't blame Bush, who's flushing billions down the drain in Iraq. Lots of blood going down those drains, too.

9. Or...
an immigration paralegal! :P

Seriously, we were working until 9:30p every night for the past weeks. I even worked on saturdays and sundays to prepare H-1Bs for our clients (fashion models - yes, fashion models get H-1Bs too, though it's technically an H-1B3, while the professionals get the H-1B1, but all fall under the Congressionally-mandated number). We were trying to get all these petitions under way, knowing the max number would be reached at any point in time.

In fact, yesterday afternoon we received notification that the H-1B cap for Fiscal Year 2007 (starting Oct. 1, 2006) was reached as of Friday, May 26. So, all my hard work for the past few days has been for nothing. Oh well...
