Q Has he given you any indication he intends to leave his job any time soon?…

PRESIDENT BUSH: No, he has not talked to me about resignation. I think he’s doing a fine job.

In fact, not only had Snow indicated he was leaving, President Bush had already settled on his replacement. Today, Tony Snow said that Hank Paulson was offered the job on May 20 and accepted a day later:

QUESTION: Do you have any tick tock on the Paulson…

SNOW: Yes. The tick tock is the two of them met on the 20th of May and there was a conversation. And Hank Paulson accepted the job a day later. That was subject to clearance. It does take time, especially for a Senate confirmable position, to complete those. So it did take time to get some of those clearances wrapped up."

I was hoping someone would put two and two together and call him on it. I mean, what did lying about it get him anyway? It just made him look even more out of the loop than he did already.

He could have easily just told the truth this time ... but he couldn't stop himself from spinning the story. Let's hope that this is the beginning of the great unraveling of each and every lie too.

During Katrina, he lied about something totally inconsequential (sorry, I can't remember what it was, but it was something that would have been to his BENEFIT to have told the truth). When asked why he had lied, he replied, "I didn't know it was public knowledge yet." I guess things don't happen until the official announcement. It's all rather silly, and makes him a lying idiot.

They seem, for the most part, normal, reasonably happy people.
They cannot, it seems, answer truthfully to anything.
Every question seems to be a challenge or accusation to them and they lie reflexively, even when the truth would be a lot simpler and far less trouble. They can't seem to help themselves--they just lie and when caught in it, they lie about lieing, claiming, usually pretty persuasively, to have misunderstood or, most often, to have been misunderstood.

Usually the issue is not worth arguing with them, especially when the questioner knows them pretty well, and knows where the disagreement will end up.

I think boosh expects, from childhood experience on up, that every question is an accusation of misdeeds or incompetence and his cover up is so automatic he doesn't even know he's doing it. Since he has absolutely zero impetus for self examination, he will never recognize his own falsehoods. Sigh...
