CNN: We Had To Go To War
CNN: We Had To Go To War
by katchen

Fri Jun 02, 2006 at 06:56:36 AM PDT
................

Blitzer and John Roberts (CNN Sr. National Correspondent) were discussing the talks in Vienna, at which six world powers decided to present Iran with an ultimatum: "Stop the nuclear activity and receive benefits or continue and there will be costs."

...............

Here comes the kicker. Note first how Roberts mispeaks and confuses Iran with Iraq. I've boldfaced the absolutely outrageous part:

ROBERTS: Don't forget, there has been resolution on sanctions against North Korea because of its nuclear program that's been languishing for three years. And then, of course, there is the issue, if they do get sanctions leveled against Iraq--leveled against Iran, are they going to work? Don't forget, Iraq endured 11 years of sanctions, and, you know, we still had to go to war to get rid of what it was that they had.

BLITZER: Good point, John. Thank you very much.

Apparently, the fact that no WMD were ever found in Iraq merely causes Roberts to avoid using the term "WMD." Yet the necessity of the war still remains, cut loose--liberated, if you will--from any specific reason: we had to go to war to get rid of what it was that they had.

38. Thank you -- the word "war" normally connotes two evenly-matched
adversaries (nation-states) slugging it out in set piece battles to resolve territorial disputes.

I would call this a "Guerilla War," in that one side (Iraqi Resistance) is following a time-honored tradition of avoiding said set-piece battles and instead engaging colonialist forces at a time and place of its choosing (read Vietnam, Algeria, France 1941-45, Spain in early 19th century)

5. To us living here in Canada ...
... Mr. John Roberts will always be "J.D. Roberts", which was his moniker when he was a VeeJay on MuchMusic (Canada's MTV station).

He was every bit as effective interviewing band members then as he is reporting legitimate 'news' now - i.e., STILL A LAUGHABLE, KNOW-NOTHING NERD trying to play 'reporter' with the big boys.

15. Hey, watch who you're calling a "Hoser"!
I'm an American, not a hoser - not that there's anything wrong with it.

I knew J.D. back in the day; I was working as a writer for a music business magazine here in Toronto at the same time he was a VeeJay. As you would expect, he was an arrogant SOB.

And believe me, he did get his virtual 'wedgies' - everyone in the business thought he was an IDIOT, and no one made much of a secret of their opinion of his self-delusional 'star' status at music industry events.

9. Ah, ol' JD strikes again
He was a "Video jockey" with (Toronto's) CITY-TV owned "MuchMusic", a music video channel on which he... appeared as the (one of the) first on-air personalities when the network launched in 1984. Roberts... cohosted "Canada AM" in the early 1990s. In his Canadian media career, he went by the name J. D. Roberts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J.D._Roberts

Anyone who watched Hair Boy back in the day knows he's uniquely unqualified to be taken seriously, whether he's talking about American politics or Bon Jovi. Too bad CNN doesn't get it.

...and thanks for the tip.

The following excerpt from the discussion between Wolfie and J.D. Roberts, the former Canadian veejay, now "Senior National Correspondent," laughably enough, illustrates perfectly why I do not watch television. There were no WMDs, therefore we did not have "to go to war to get rid of what it was that they had."

Until such time as your "journalists" once again start competently practicing journalism, I will continue to get my news elsewhere.

ROBERTS: ...Don't forget, Iraq endured 11 years of sanctions, and, you know, we still had to go to war to get rid of what it was that they had.

BLITZER: Good point, John. Thank you very much.

34. and what it is they had
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 12:02 PM by slaveplanet
Was oil.

saddam was pumping too much of it, and the the oil companies needed to shut off the tap.

Mid 90's oil company documents prove this, and they openly colluded to do something about it.

In the documents they complained about Saddam's over-pumping, and how all the
independent refineries were refining too much. So they set in motion a plan
to buy up all the independent refineries in US and Europe, then shut them down.

You are seeing the result ...$70 + a barrel oil, never to go down again.

They want control of Iran's oil as well, so they can shut off the spigot at will.

They will use the phony excuse of "You can keep your nuclear reactors as long as you get the fuel from us bit by bit" to do it. Nevermind, that it's blackmail and violates the NNPT, and both countries are signed on to it.

Meanwhile South Korea has been caught illegally refining to weapons grade and there's hardly a peep.

Blitzer and Roberts are just playing the company line... that of the corrupt sheriff.

You know the one who throws down the revolver to the bad guy who's just been thrown from his horse.

"go ahead, pick it up, give me an excuse to blast ya"

Is it any wonder they call us "The Great Satan"

This is reporting?
You must be joking.

"what they had"
"good point"

That is NO point, much less a good one.
What they had is...nothing worth starting a war over.
It is beyond me how you continue to "catapult the propaganda" for this administration despite the fact that appproval ratings have been solidly in the 30's and 20's for quite some time now.

I must check and see whether CNN still uses the Most Respected tagline.
Aren't there laws about false advertising? If so then CNN is in trouble!

this seems to be par for the course for CNN recently. At least they didn't use any maps form a white supremacist organization this time. With "trusted" reporting like this it's no wonder their ratings are hurting.

And what they had, was, well IT. They had it, and we had to get rid of it. Yes-sir-ee-Bob, the it factor, is no longer a factor of it out there, and it just does not exist anymore.

And if you don't think it was a bad thing, you just don't know what it was capable of, and if you don't think we should have gotten rid of it, you are just not supporting the troops, and desecrating the names of those soldiers that have already been killed.

Now we need to stay out there because it might spring back up, and, well, it might be bad...

:eyes: Ahh, CNN,the voice of America at war.
