Pat Robertson's Lear Jet crashes
http://www.boston.com/news/local/connecticut/articles/2006/06/02/small_plane_goes_off_runway_at_groton_new_london_airport/?p1=MEWell_Pos5
<snip>
A Learjet owned by religious broadcaster Pat Robertson crashed in Long Island Sound while flying in heavy fog Friday, killing the two pilots and injuring three passengers, the Coast Guard said. Robertson was not aboard.

The rescued passengers were able to get out of the plane on their own and were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, state police spokesman Sgt. J. Paul Vance said.

The jet was believed to be headed to Connecticut for a charity golf tournament at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in nearby Mashantucket, authorities said. It went down a half-mile short of the runway at the Groton-New London Airport.

32. Does Death give a warning?
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 06:10 PM by anotheryellowdog
Many years ago, George Carlin did an album (back before CDs when there were albums) in which he talked a lot about death. In one shtick, he suggested that Death gives an audible two minute warning.

"Two minutes - Get your shit together! What, now? Home in bed? I thought surely I'd be on the freeway!"

George goes on to state that we should take advantage of that warning. Be humorous or perhaps wax eloquent for once in our lives. For Pat it might be something like "George W. Bush is a great president, and if I am not telling the truth may God strike me dead." Thank you, Pat. Say hi to Satan for me.

33. Pardon my nit-picking 'cuz I really hate it when other people do this
But an album is a collection... you can have a music album, a photo album, an album of matchbook covers, post cards, etc.

A collection of songs is an album... they come on tape, CD's or vinyl... they are all albums:) Calling it a CD is like calling your insulated beverage container a Thermos, or your tissue a Kleenex:)

Sorry, pet peeve. I wrote for a fanzine for over seven years... drove me nuts.

34. Well my God!
I stand corrected. Since the advent of CDs, I have just always equated the term "album" with vinyl, but I'm sure you're right. And if you're not right, may God strike me dead! You'd better be right goddamnit, or I'm coming back to haunt your silly ass!

So I'm just now IM'ing with by SO and he says, I think I'll listen to some CD's now... haha! He obviously read this thread!

Too funny.

37. In fact the first record album I remember was just that -
a book-like binder containing about six heavy 78rpm discs, composing a set of recorded songs.

39. Yes, that's the original meaning of "album"...
...as it pertains to sound recordings, anyway.

Before LPs, to listen to, say, an entire symphony, you had to play a whole series of 78s in succession. Those 78s were organized in albums comparable to photo albums.

As is so often the case, the term stuck, even as technology superceded it.

48. We are both right... according to Wikipedia
An album is a collection of related audio tracks, released together commercially in an audio format to the public.

The term "record album" originated from the fact that 78 RPM Phonograph disc records were kept together in a book resembling a photo album. The first collection of records to be called an "album" was Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite", release in April 1909 as a four-disc set by Odeon records<1><2>. It retailed for 16 shillings — about <£>15 in modern currency.

In 1948, Columbia produced the first 12", 33 1/3 RPM microgroove record made of vinylite<3>. With a running time of 23 minutes per side, these new records contained as much music as the old-style album of records and, thus, took on the name "album". For many years, the standard industry format for popular music was an album of 12 songs, originally the number related to payment of composer royalties.

Today, with the vinyl record no longer being used as the primary form of distrubution, the term "album" is applied to any sound recording collection, mainly those on compact disc, Although it can also refer to MiniDisc, Compact audio cassette and Mp3 albums

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album

So, using that logic, I guess there are CD records, tape records, etc. Record relating to recording... ok, this is getting to anal even for me! haha!

God left Pat on this earth to suffer through the humiliation of hypocricy - from the plane headed to a gambling location to the sheer fact that Pat didn't "predict" this turn of events.

50. hmm
You can't shame the shameless. The sort of self-loathing despair that would affect us if we were confronted with a vast personal failing wouldn't even twig on their moral radars. If a photo surfaced of Bush masturbating over the coffins of dead soldiers the most he'd say is "Drat, you didn't catch me from my good side."

God left him on earth this time because he plans for him to be here AFTER the rapture as well.

I don't think anything could be more fitting justice than for the rapture to really, really happen and for Robertson, Falwell, Dobson, Bauer, and the like to suddenly realize they have been LEFT BEHIND! Bwahahaha!!!! Sweet justice, indeed!

11. Tragic for the pilots and family. But since Pat is so big on "signs...
...of sin being tragic acts of punishment by God"...he's got some serious spinning to do.

It should take him a whole day huddled with his disinformation Taliban to come up with a way to blame this on gay Americans, the Democratic Party, pro-choice, anti-war demonstrators, or the Clenis.
