Daleks = today's Neocons. discuss.
Dr. Who has them just about right, especially with the
"exterminate, exterminate, EXTERMINATE!"

1. If so, ponder the Dr's response to their threat
"I have no plan, I have no weapons, and that scares the crap out of you doesn't it?"

(paraphrasing...he probably didn't say 'crap'...)

17. I thought you meant
# Doctor: 'If someone who knew the future, pointed out a child to you and told you that that child would grow up totally evil, to be a ruthless dictator who would destroy millions of lives... could you then kill that child?' Sarah Jane Smith: 'We're talking about the Daleks. The most evil creatures ever invented. You must destroy them. You must complete your mission for the Time Lords!' Doctor: 'Do I have the right? Simply touch one wire against the other and that's it. The Daleks cease to exist. Hundreds of millions of people, thousands of generations can live without fear... in peace, and never even know the word "Dalek".' Sarah Jane Smith: 'Then why wait? If it was a disease or some sort of bacteria you were destroying, you wouldn't hesitate.' Doctor: 'But if I kill. Wipe out a whole intelligent life form, then I become like them. I'd be no better than the Daleks.'

# Doctor: 'I know that although the Daleks will create havoc and destruction for millions of years. I know also, that out of their evil, must come something good.'

2. No, the Daleks are very, very honest, think about it:
- "They will be EXterminated!"
vs.
- "Were gonna smoke 'em out"

- "You will obey, or she will be exterrrrrminated!"
vs.
- "heckuva job!"

- "Purge the earth with fire!"
vs.
- "And I would like to commend the corporations supporting our troops in Iraq for their efforts"

- "Exterminate! EXTERMINATE! You will be EXTERMINATED!"
vs.
- "Bring 'em on!"

3. I think it's more Borg: Resistance is futile
You will be assimilated, weren't they like locusts, sucking up all the resources of a planet
and then moving on to their next target.

5. no, but there's the rest of the Middle East
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 10:12 PM by MissWaverly
glittering like chocolates in the candy box, that's why we have to create a real alternative,
who wants on this roller coaster ride of oil dependency. This is all a nightmare foisted
on us by the neocons. Right now we are at war in 2 Middle Eastern countries, we should be
trying to wrap it up and come home, but that's not what the neocons want, they want to
saber rattle over Iran, it's totally absurd.

if we mess up this planet, we've not another one to go to.

7. Yes, I agree
It seems like our fuel habits are just that habit. During WW II most homes used coal and were
able to do it effectively, then every one switched to oil or natural gas. That's a major change, yet Americans did it, we can do it again for seomething that is better for the planet
than fossil fuels, we just need a leader who will help spur change.

11. Hydrogen looks interesting.
As do the various techniques for getting it. (Aside from the fossil fuel ones)

9. Oh, you silly Brit TV fans...they're Paklids!
Remember the monumentally stupid, greedy race from "Star Trek: The Next Generation"?

"We are Paklids. We swarch for things. Things to make us go. Things to make us strong."

And yet, they were able to hold the Enterprise 1701-D and capture Geordie LaForge. Mostly because the people on the Enterprise were nice and honest and didn't expect such galactic RE-tards to be deceptive.

It's a much more fitting metaphor, with the kindly but naive Enterprise folk a great stand-in for the Democratic Party. Over in Who-ville, the villains were always more obviously evil.

13. Except the Paklids (pity they never returned) had an
underlying intelligence that made up for their supposed "retardation" characteristics.

They weren't greedy.

They were survivors and did only what was necessary. The greedy tend to do far, far more than what's necessary and often risk their own destruction in doing so.

Besides, with Trek (particularly TNG onwards, once Berman got full control), no villain was truly vile at heart. Talk about escape from reality.

The new WHO series has gotten a bit flaccid with its aliens, too - namely the episode "Dalek" where the Dalek is seen as the goodie and the Doctor is the bad one. (and the episode is top notch until they pull that pathetic gimmick!)
