Report from behind the bar-Witnessing the so-called "Sanctity of Marriage"
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 03:11 AM by libnnc
I work in an upscale martini bar.

Live jazz music, great food menu, wonderful owners and staff.

I bar-back (pour beer, wine, and wash glasses) on Friday and Saturday nights. Every week I see the so-called "Sanctity of Marriage" played out among heterosexual bar flys.

Tonight, two guys sitting in front of me talked about their wives, how smart and good their kids were, how happy and secure they were in their jobs etc.

After their second round of drinks, one of the men (early 40s, both) motioned for me to come over and said "Hey, sweetheart, you see those two girls at the end of the bar? I want to buy them both a drink...put it on MY tab." <wink wink>

Fast-forward to their third round, the fat guy said to me, (I was busy washing dishes), "Hey, sweetheart, when do YOU get to drink tonight?" <wink wink>. I went suddenly deaf and turned my back.

One thing I have learned, you never tell a drunken, straight man you're a lesbian. He'll think he's hit the jackpot.

You wanna preserve the "sanctity of marriage"?

How's about keeping track of your fucking fat-assed, alcoholic husbands.

Edit to add: the two married assholes left with the two girls.

1. Let's ban divorces & uphold the sanctity of marriage
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 03:00 AM by Erika
Cheating spouses need prison sentences. One of the 10 Commandments does refer to adultery.

Destroying family unity by asking for a divorce should bear a 15 year prison term. Adultery, a 25 year term.

We need to protect families. An amendment to ban divorce should be produced this year!

3. rAmen!
All of those Christofascists run around screaming about "the Bible sez blah blah blah", and "we need to protect the sanctity of marriage". The Bible expressly forbids adultery and divorce. Propose that the Constitution be amended so that divorce is illegal and adultery is punishable by a prison term.

I'd bet that they'd STFU about their FMA.

11. They're always more concerned with things that aren't issues,
than with things that are actual problems. That's why they whine about gays, porn, "the war on Christmas" and crap like that and ignore poverty, divorce, people with no health insurance and so on. Tackling real issues takes real initiative and resources, not faux indignation and foot stomping.

5. That is a brilliant proposal!
I see a new bumpersticker in my future: "Protect the sanctity of marriage: Prison terms for divorce & adultery!"

9. Cons will use adultery to throw women in jail
while let the men cheating on their wives to get off scot-free. It's been done before; they'll try it again.

6. How about because no human being can really control another
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 07:23 AM by Warpy
human being's behavior? The wives aren't the problem, SWEETHEART, those two fat slobs and the alcohol (instant asshole) they were swilling are the problems. The wife is at home trying to keep the kids clean and fed after she's picked them up at daycare and while she's doing the supper dishes after feeding the fat slob and before doing six loads of laundry. Whether or not the fat slob has gotten a skinful and is off screwing some bar skank is low on her list of things to control.

OK, rant off.

If we want to defend marriage, we could always close all the bars.

Oh, wait, we tried that.

8. I'm not blaming the wives...
just trying to point out the hypocrisy that's all.

Don't call me sweetheart. You haven't paid for your drink.
