Remember "Mr Smith Goes to Washington?"
If you're not too cynical to watch it, it comes on tonight, TCM, 7:00 pm Central time.

I think I'm too cynical.

4. This is a movie that can be appreciated despite being cynical.
For 129 minutes, one can imagine that the government truly represents the people & that the Sen. Paine's & the Jim Taylor puppeteers are more the exception.

My favorite old political movie is "The Farmer's Daughter" (1947) & it's even cornier than "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington". As corny as it is, it's extremely well done & it makes me wish for better hearts in politicians.

5. It may be on the corny side
but it also pulls the curtain off of the ugly corruption that has always been rampant in Washington and shows it for what it is. Edward Arnold in this, and in Meet John Doe, is a spot on characterization of the kind of fascist Dick Cheney is today. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington speaks truth, and I'm as cynical a bastard as they come. But you can't fault it's logic and it's message. Love that film.

6. Love that film!
It effected me greatly when I first saw it as a kid/teenager. Probably one of the reasons I'm here now on DU grousing about the corrupt bastards in DC! B-)
