Prospective Democratic chairs all liberal

By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer
Sat Jun 3, 12:46 PM ET

WASHINGTON - If the chips fall right for Democrats and their party seizes control of the House, President Bush's agenda on Capitol Hill would fall into the hands of some of his most dogged opponents.

It's not just would-be Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, but a boatload of Democrats newly running committees who would determine what legislation gets debated and which programs and agencies get scrutiny.

-snip-

As for those prospective Democratic chairmen, the group is overwhelmingly liberal-leaning.

Only two of 20 earned grades of less than 90 percent on last year's voting records from the liberal Americans for Democratic Action interest group. Half had perfect scores of 100 from the ADA — or would have had it not been for missed votes.

-snip-

In a potential power switch between the parties, more than an unrelenting string of liberal Democrats are positioned to take over committees.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem with the overall tone of this article? Why does the AP keep emphasizing the word "liberal" as if it's supposed to be some dirty word?

1. That's because it has become a dirty word in America.

2. And no one writes that all chairmen now are right-wing extremists --
much farther to the right than potential Dem chairs are to the left. This article is unacceptable.

:grr:

3. That's right, it is unacceptable.
I picked up on the "tone" of the article right away, which is the AP just shouting "liberal, libera, liberal." As if to say to the American people, 'do you really want those damn liberals running Congress?'

The AP's writing has become so slanted. I took issue with an article they wrote the other day about the murders in Haditha, because in the very first paragraph of the article, they noted that Rep. John Murtha was an "outspoken critic of the war." And I got the distinct impression that by noting Murtha's criticism of the war right off the bat in the article, the AP was trying to discredit his comments on Haditha. As if they didn't want readers to believe what Murtha had to say on Haditha, b/c he's not for the Iraq war. It was very disturbing.
