Drudge on Al Gore's movie and global warming:
warning, your head might explode from reading this

"This is all politically driven" said Drudge. (paraphrased)"Al Gore is using up thousands of gallons of fossil fuels to fly around the world and scare everyone about global warming." Then he went on to say there is no way man is creating this problem. "What created Niagara Falls? There's evidence Antarctica was once tropical, how do you explain that? We've had hurricanes for thousands of years. Was that man too?" He's not even trying, this is such non-sense. Should I even spend time refuting this? OK, just a few minutes.

First of all, this can't possibly be politically driven. No one wants to hear this stuff. It's not making Al Gore into Mr. Popular except in forums like this. Besides, what is Al Gore running for? NOTHING This is far less politically driven than a gay marriage amendment. Why don't you talk about that you little piece of rat shit in a Panama hat!

Second, what should Al Gore sit in a hut with no electricity and spend all day sewing together potato sacks for clothes? Fuck you Drudge, you have to get the message out somehow.

Third of all, Antarctica was tropical back when there were fricking dinosaurs. We're not talking about a few hundred years. I suppose the Buffalo population declining from tens of million to a few hundred in a matter of decades was just a natural phenomenon. I mean, that's arrogant of humans to think that they can have any influence on the buffalo that have lived in American for thousands of years :eyes:

omg - now a caller is saying Gore is an "Environmental Leninist"

3. he explains it in the book -- carbon offsets
These are accepted by most mainstream environmental groups and by businesses and governments (the national ones which have ratified Kyoto, and the municipal ones even in the US) as being a viable way to tackle global warming.

Gore buys his offsets here. (My supervisor, who worked for the UN Environment Programme, also used offsetting for his travel.)

The book publishers (Rodale Press) have also attempted to reduce their environmental impacts. This is actually not new -- J.K. Rowling's North American publishers went for sustainably-produced paper after she expressed her concerns to them. And entire events (e.g. The Brit Awards) have been "carbon-neutral".

4. some day people are going to look back with amazement and wonder
how the hell a modern citizenry with access to all the scientific information in the world at their fingertips could actually accept and believe such preposterous arguments and such flimsy nonsense. They'll wonder how we could be so stubbornly stupid just like we wonder how the slaveholding society of America's past could be so stubbornly racist. The answer is pretty much the same, though: Lots of people who were doing well didn't want their lives to change, so they made sure they never had any contact with anything that would unsettle them, and when they did, they taught themselves to ignore it.

Drudge will be the equivalent of a KKK Grand Wizard when history is finally written.
