Here is a "Support the Troops" bumper sticker idea...What do you think?
In response to stories coming out of Iraq about drinking water, food, and body armor, and the ambiguous "Support the Troops" magnets on the trunks of "patriots," I've thought about having this bumper sticker made:

Support the Troops
Provide them with body armor, fresh water,
edible food, and M-16s that don't jam, and above all,
don't lie to them!

I have read that the M-16s jam frequently (ever since VietNam) and that some US troops prefer the AK-47, but wonder if I should include reference to it here as the reputation of the M-16 may be due to carelessness (lack of cleaning) and not to the manufacture,,,

1. VERY GOOD - all you need now is a picture of troops in uniform on.........
....either side of the words. That is good though.

7. Excellent idea!
Here are a couple. Sorry I can't post them here, but the links work:

The silhouette of a solitary soldier on duty in a distant land..

A team of soldiers on a mission in a Hell-like environment...very stark realism.

10. How about BOTH - one on either side - so no one can..................
....miss the damned idea - not even the idiotic neocons/fundies. You're on to something here.

PS: You might need to put the picture in some kind of "print shop" program so you can reduced them to fit in the area. Get it done though!!

2. Looks great to me. Trust me on the M-16, it's not for lack of cleaning,
it's a poorly manufactured, mass produced piece of ca-ca.

3. Pretty sure the M-16 has been improved since Vietnam
Depends on which A it is (M-16A3,A4....)

Although still unreliable as the AK-47 (or even the AK-74 as is being used these days by more Russian troops.) It still is a good amount more complex than the AK and maintenance is more difficult but accuracy is better.

Other than that I agree... especially yon the last

9. That's right! Very important in pulling 2, 3 or more tours of duty.
I think we all could put up with some discomfort in shelter for a little while, but when you're over there for years--or "indefinitely" as the Bushistas claim we will be--that could be a real morale depressant.

5. The M-16 experienced major problems with jamming when it was
introduced during the Vietnam War. The problems were, in the main, due to having rushed the weapon into production too quickly, before the kinks had been worked out. More problems arose due to bureaucratic incompetence in the insistence on modifying Eugene Stoner's ingenious design. Changes were made to the rifle for specifications that had nothing to do with its original purpose. For example, for no apparent reason, the government added a half-twist to the rifling of the barrel, which Stoner had advised against. And the government purchasers insisted on using smoky, dirty old black powder in the ammo, instead of the relatively clean "Smokeless" powder coming into use. To top it off, when the rifle was issued to combat troops, they were told that the rifle "needed no cleaning". And they obeyed. Of COURSE a weapon will jam if you don't clean it frequently.

I used the M-16A1 and A2 when I was in the Army. The A1 jammed every once in a while, usually in basic training, where the rifles were sometimes decades old, and the parts were wearing away. The M-16A2 was a phenomenal weapon that I really enjoyed firing. It never jammed on me.

BTW, great idea on the bumper sticker. Print it up!

11. I learned on the M-14. When I was sent to my assignment,
all we had was M-1's and Korean war vintage ammo. I later found we had machine guns.

The local police on the beat had M-16's.

When we came under alert I was handed a M-60 and one box of ammo. I'd never touched one before, and neither had my feeder. We were put behind the front gate. I told the guy that we will be the first to die. All told we had enough ammo for 5 minutes sustained battle. None of us had combat training or experience.

After a lifetime no 3,000 strong force appeared. We were told to stand down. The Air support that was 15 minutes away never showed. I was strangely calm. My concern was the operation of the weapon. Much of the M-1 ammo was bad, I had no faith in the M-60 ammo being any better.

Mine was on a tripod

12. How about...
Support the Troops...BRING THEM HOME

If they weren't where they shouldn't be in the first place then they wouldn't need body armor or M-16s.

13. Too much text for a bumper sticker I think....
... but you won't know until you mock up a full size one.

I agree with the sentiment 100% though.
