Al Gore’s appearance on Saturday Night Live was funny, but on a serious note think of how the world would be different if 2000 hadn’t been stolen.
Assuming that Gore followed Clinton’s lead and continued weekly meetings with all intelligence agencies regarding Terror perhaps 9/11 would not have happened. I don’t think he would have ignored a PDB titled “Osoma intent on attacking America”.
Perhaps if Gore’s attorney general didn’t disband the FBI terror group and re-assign them to kiddie porn we would have intercepted the terrorists we wouldn’t have gone into Afghanistan and Iraq.
Twenty five hundred American troops would be alive and 20,000 would still have all their limbs. A hundred thousand Iraqis would still be alive and Saddam would still be contained and suffering more than ever from sanctions.
Without a war in Iraq and threats against Iran oil would be at $30 a barrel and gas at $1.50 a gallon.
Perhaps if Gore was successful in passing new CAFÉ standards the new cars hitting the streets now would get 25% more mileage and saving the US $20 billion in oil imports a year.
Maybe if Gore had begun working on global warming six years ago we would have more renewable clean energy and be well on our way to energy independence.
If Gore had spent the surplus the way he wanted; 1/3 to tax cuts, 1/3 to spending and 1/3 held in reserve in case of a down turn in the economy we would have a more robust economy.
What if Gore didn’t give massive tax cuts to the top 2% of incomes and we had a budget surplus instead of record borrowing from China and Japan? Would we have a balanced budget even with the dot com bust?
Maybe we wouldn’t have six million more people without health care.
Maybe one in four American children wouldn’t live in poverty and one in five go to bed hungry.
Maybe . . .
Keep all this in mind when someone says that Democrats and Republicans are all the same.
