Gay marriage ban: Would it affect ‘civil unions’?

I know it will never pass btu even if it did …

Wing nuts go coo coo over ‘gay marriage’ but even with an amendment wouldn’t civil unions still be legal sense they are not really ‘marriage’..

1. That's exactly what some RW nutters are complaining about
They think the FMA language is too broad, that them queers might still be able to have civil unions.

4. Actually, no...
The broadness of it makes sure that there are no civil unions either. The part of the amendment that says "marriage or the legal incidents thereof" takes that into account. Any domestic partnership or civil union or anything like that will be made invalid by the FMA because they confer "the legal incidents" of marriage.

2. most definitely
it says that nothing but marriage will ever be recognized at the federal level for the benefits of marriage.

It is pure unpolished discrimination.

When the government makes the law meaningless for us by applying it unequally, then we have no reason to respect the law or the government. But before it gets that far there is a lot of work to be done first; this battle is far from fought and the war not nearly over.

Amen to that. And, silly me, I thought that's what this country was all about!
