What are some of the reasons that people, any people, get married
in the first place?

I got married because I want my wife to spend the rest of her life with me. (hee, hee, hee)

6. Not us....
My husband and I are childless by choice, we got married so that our relationship would be legally recognized.

7. My wife and are also childless, by choice.
We were also married by a JP, so we have a civil marriage not a religious marriage. The getting married for the children sake, is a valid reason for marriage but so to is buying a home.

Their are allot of good reasons to get married, and i can't think of one good reason to keep anyone who want to marry from doing so.

Peace!

3. Damn good question
I've been married 3 times since 1975. The one and only and I have been together for over 20 yrs. I think th first two were out of situations at hand, or just compatibility at the time.

9. I married my husband for his money
we were living together, he got benefits through the GI bill, $210 per month when single, $330 if he was married. Our rent was $80 per month so $110 was a lot of money to us. (I'm only half kidding.) We're looking forward to our 32nd anniversary this year.

Seems benefits like health insurance would be a big motivator today.

11. Congratulations on 32 years!
That's quite an accomplishment by an standard. My partner and I are coming up on 9 years. I hear that's about 27 years in straight marriage. :-)

Seriously though. Congratulations!

12. thanks
after a time, inertia sets in. I'm kidding...mostly...no entirely. The security of family is worth all those times I pretended he was right. ;)

10. I want to get married, but not in the religious way
I want a life partnership. I want my best friend to be with me for all of our lives.

I think I have that now--god I hope he doesn't turn into the one that got away

I'm only 21, FWIW.
