Swear me this oath DU
and to the same I will hold true. If things get as oppressive in this country as some of us fear then eventually free people opposed to the regime will be targeted. I'm certain sites like this will be shut down in extreme circumstances as well. It wouldn't surprise me that if another 9/11 occurred they would claim that service was disrupted by the attack or simply declare seizure of political sites to fall under martial law statutes for controlling communications. This place is my only shelter in the maelstrom of insanity that has blown over our country since 2000. If it is shutdown I propose that everyone who posts here, by any means necessary meets me in Washington DC for a non-violent but sustained protest. Or at the very least make it easier to find us and make them take us all at once. I don't know if I can lead through this storm but I pledge to you my that my heart is true and I will stand with you and follow those that lead better. If we truly cross that point then our country is truly dead and I have no recourse but to try to resurrect her.

1. This is our future.
I'm in. I think your fears are well founded. They hate us and fear the truth that we publish. The blogosphere is the last area that is out of their control and it is hurting them and they know it.

I think it may be minutes. By all means please let a moderator come in this thread and tell me they can't do this. Please?

6. It's funny you should mention this because I was thinking the............
....same thing. I fully expect an attack between now and 06 but I especially expect one between 1/07 and 11/08 if things look like they're going bad for the neocons/fundies. Shutting down at least parts of the Internet - the last bastion of Liberal communication is not an IF it's merely a WHEN.

Accepting that as fact how do we communicate with each other to know when and where to meet?? Some of us are already on limited incomes, are disabled, are whatever and may not have the option to travel to DC so what do we do from there??

Ideas anyone???? I don't know about anyone else but I'm totally serious about this. So please, no :sarcasm: just give me some good workable ideas.:loveya:

12. Don't most cell phones have GPS chips?
So if we have those, we are really easy to find.

I have an old cell phone without one. I'm keeping it.

Also, Fast-Pass or EZ tags that get you through the toll gates purportedly have the GPS chips as well.

13. We need to start building our networks now, while private communication
is still possible. Try to hook up with others in your area and make some plans for various circumstances.
Begin building the trust now, if we wait until "it" happens, it will be far too late.

Examples:

If the net goes down, call me @ xxx-xxxx after 4 PM weekdays.
If the phone doesn't work, meet @ such and such on Sunday.
If we have to get out of town on short/no notice we will go to the cabin @ ????.

It's a start.

11. This is important
It's just because most of us don't remember the all-too-real horrors of the 20th century, when it looked like the Enlightenment would truly be reversed by the fascists in Europe. Then, in the 60s, the Establishment only narrowly clung to their power, and social reforms made society seem more open and equal than it really was, when it came down to it.

And now it seems impossible to think that we might actually have to become La Resistance.

I remember on September 11th, I was making hamburgers in my parents' store, and I was kind of numb (as everyone), and confused, and I remember thinking, Well, this is it. This is our Pearl Harbor. We thought it was the Challenger, but, no, this is what we will remember.

Little did I know, poor, naive, pre-Zinn me, how similar to Pearl Harbor it really was.

On that day I had strength and solidarity. And we have that now, too. But we must organize. We need contingency plans, committees, things to be set into action the moment the free exchange of information is shut down by the current fascists. Where will we be without DU? Without our news sources?

We need a comprehensive list of the actual addresses and phone numbers of members, I guess. That could be dangerous. At the very least, we need regional rallying points, preferably not openly advertised in this forum.

We talk and talk. But we may have to become the Resistance.

I've got 12.5 acres in East Tn with 4 homes on it, my own wells, and I'm fixing to invest in a few generators. I'd be more than happy to start a compound/retreat/rallying point.

27. so true...
but I'm not joking either... I lived thru ground zero of hurricane andrew and the aftermath in Florida City, Fla because I didn't evacuate... it did something to me inside, messed up my head a little with survivalist instincts. I grocery shop to the point that my cupboards and freezer overflow and I have to put stuff in my parents and my sister's freezers. I have things set up here to be self sustaining in the event of an emergency again.

30. I do try and not think about this.
I'm in Canada so I do feel a teeny bit safer, however with the recent terror arrests, the news has been repeating over and over again that the one thing that made it easy for the terror suspects was that they found each other online. "They met on the internet", "They planned their attacks on the internet". After a few times of hearing this on many separate newscasts, Canadian and American, I started thinking, "Gee, that would be a convenient excuse to take THAT away, now wouldn't it?" :scared:
