How about renaming September 11 forum "Tin Foil Corral"?
What exactly does RFKs assassination have to do with September 11? That forum seems to have become a corral for anything that is remotely related to ANY conspiracy theories not just September 11. Isn't this a disservice to the memories of those lost on September 11th? I mean really, those in the September 11th forum are just trying to find out the truth of those events. As Einstein said "Imagination is more important than knowledge" Isn't it more important to speculate on what might have been? Rather than being unwavering in %100 certainty? Speculation can be used as a starting point. Sure, I'm a realist and I need documentation to support the "facts" but to lump people into "conspiracy theorists" camps is really narrow minded.

1. rather, adding the Conspiracy Corral
i think it's hideous to paint seekers of truth for that day -- people who have lost loved ones, etc -- with the same brush usually reserved for people who mumble at lightbulbs.

In spite of popular wishing, conspiracies have and do exist.

4. Well, a lot of them are immune to logic..that makes it difficult to reason
with them...they're so wrapped up in their individual conspiracy theories that they wouldn't know a fact if it bit them on the ass.

I don't see a problem with keeping that particular discussion where it is.

5. But the forum name is "9/11" not conspiracy theories
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 05:07 PM by tyedyeto
I think is what the OP was trying to point out.

6. Why was a speculation about RFK's death moved to 'Septmeber 11th"?
They have nothing to do with one another. I think both should be discussed and I'll listen to anybody's opinion.

11. Reply to posts #5 and #6:
Because the 9/11 Forum has become the catch-all lunatic conspiracy forum here at DU (as I see it).

That might not have happened if some of the CTists in the 9/11 Forum hadn't vehemently stated and defended some REALLY insane proposals.

As it stands, the 9/11 Forum is where DU sends its crazy aunts...

12. Then why is the forum named 'September 11'? n/t
If it's a catch-all forum, why hasn't it been re-named?

15. Because (I'm just guessing) "The Whacko Forum" might sound demeaning???
You bring up a valid point, but I really don't think it's a priority of the Admins. They provided a place for 9/11 discussion and people turned into a madhouse.

Considering its current state, it's not a bad place for the "chemtrails" group...

18. All I'm saying is that if a forum is named for one particular event
that is where those discussions should take place. But other topics should not be relegated there.

Start a Conspiracy Forum, but don't have off-topics in a named forum. Just MHO.

Princess Diana

Cia Coke plane (very recent news)

RFK

and a host of other topics non-9/11 related.

You are only discrediting people trying to find out more information about 9/11 by lumping in conspiracy theories such as the one where we "faked the moon landing."

Not that I'm big into the 9/11 conspiracy stuff or anything, but c'mon - can't we let people have their own places to talk about what they wanna talk about without being derided?

13. The title of my post was supposed to be sarcastic.
I'm absolutely in favor of discussion, my point is that these issues are being trivialized when moved to a "corral" that everyone believes is the "kooky conspiracy theories" Now ALL theories are moved to September 11th not just those surround 9/11. I think that September 11th issues should be talked about out in the daylight of GD not in the Dungeon.

17. Well never-me-mind then! LOL
There can be OTHER reasons for "corralling" topics tho - for example: because they would flood/overwhelm GD, making GD less useful...

Do you think that putting Sports in its own corral trivializes IT? Presumably not. Because of that sort of example, I suspect that the trivialization you're worried about IS NOT because of it's having a forum of its own, but rather for some other reason.

And there was still no answer to my question: does Sports having its own forum THEREBY trivialize it?

23. No, but if I started making posts about pottery in the Sports forum
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 05:38 PM by Jara sang
I assume they would be moved by moderators. Maybe the "groups" forums aren't really moderated. The only thing I see usually is stuff MOVED to 'September 11' forum and stuffed moved TO "Israel/Palestine"(that just happened moments ago, as it will to this post) that is the only places where this takes place.
