IS AIR-AMERICA THE BEST AMERICA HAS TO OFFER?
I actually just turned it on last night for the first time and I'm still listening today. Call me overly-optimistic if you must but unvarnished truth like this can rebuild the American dream.

6. I'm not sure I was in a freedom loving place called America before...
and the I woke up to find myself in Bizarro-Amerika run by the village idiot! Can you believe that? I knew I shouldn't have done so much acid in the '70s.

It's like a nightmare!

7. Where are you located?
I can only get AAR through XM. The Atlanta AAR is very weak. The only time we get Thom Hartmann on XM/AAR station is a rerun early Sat. and Sun. morning and if he substitutes for a regular AAR host such as Randi Rhodes in the afternoon. He is the best!

So just wondering where you are located that you get TH on AAR. I don't see him listed as a regular dialy host on AAR listings. Possibly you get him syndicated and AAR in your area picks him up. I wish he would be a regular on AAR everywhere and on XM!

11. you need a cable modem to gain the wings of freedom
Then fly online, like I do down here in Alabama. DSL might do as well but I doubt it because bushco phone companies love to screw you.

10. Answering my own question
Just did some more investigating AAR and they are now offering Thom Hartmann syndicated from Noon-3 PM for stations who would like to take his show. That's when XM/AAR has Al Franken.

12. I agree! Thom Hartmann and Mike Malloy are my two faves on AAR
Unfortunately, we don't get Hartmann here in L.A. and Malloy only at midnight, but I stream them when I can.

And, despite her abrasiveness from time to time, God bless Randi Rhodes!!! And Sam and Janeane ... and Rachel Maddow and ...

It's a little too vitriolic and base. Like right-wing hate radio. Some of the guests are good, but the personal insults don't bring much to the table.

17. yeah, unlike DU where all views are respected in rational approaches...
I'm glad there's none of that personal insult nonsense going on in our thread community. We generally stick to the issues here, as well. This station could take a lesson from our stellar example. damn liberals

18. Guess I suffered a lot of damage from RW radio but I LOVE the insults
Agree that most of the programming panders to the Democratic base, but isn't that what Rush, Insanity, Savage, et al. do to the RW? That's how Rush and co. have supposedly moved this country "right" -- through being way way way RW and convincing listeners to follow him. Hopefully Democrats are getting some traction in the tug of war now that AAR is in the fight.

Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 06:10 PM by nickinSTL
Air America isn't even on the 1st page of results.

It's the 3rd on Yahoo!

edited to clarify:searched on AAR, not Air America.

22. as I tried to add in my edit...
If you search AAR, you get nothing on Google's first page, and the 3rd hit on Yahoo!

I have no doubt it'd be first on each if you type out the full name.

13. I don't listen to talk radio
But lately I've had friends, who have been "non-political" but left leaning, (you know the type-- searching for the perfect Zen, 'bless 'em.)
Well a few of them have been listening to AAR. Because some of them have long commutes. And hate radio isn't their bag, not at all. So they've informing me of Shocking Facts, most of which I've been aware of for some time. I had to call a kind of truce on this particular group of friends a couple years ago, because they didn't understand my passion. Or my anger-- Make that rage. I was more amusing to them, because all they had to say was "george bush" and I was spewing in no time. I saw this wasn't the way those who didn't "get" it, so unless they asked a specific question, I told them it was probably better if I didn't talk politics. I do the same thing at work.

So this group of friends, and a few co-workers they've been listening, they are changing, getting informed. AND getting angry. The next step is getting involved. Man, I feel GOOD.

It's enough to make me start listening.

14. MIght I suggest Stephanie MIller? (www.stephaniemiller.com)
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 06:18 PM by rurallib
There is a syndicater called Jones Radio Group that has some good stuff. Stephanie, for my money is the best show on the radio (9 - 12 EDT). They also carry Ed Schultz. I am luke warm on Ed.
AAR also has Thom Hartmann as a syndicated show. Here is the link. He is on from 12 - 3 EDT:

15. I really think that's the ONLY thing that will do it. It just
needs to be expanded to TV etc.

Then once we gain some political muscle we can institute some MSM standards/reforms to balance the news.

This way the public can actually give their informed consent (or not) on public policy instead of just being propagandized.

20. It could be worse. It could be Talk Left on Sirius.
I really cannot fecking stand Alex Bennett. Seriously. I'm thinking of switching because I'm so sick of listening to him in the morning. He's totally unaware of the issues, spends most of the time talking about himself and his girlfriend, and the rest of the time bashing Dems.

If anyone from Sirius programming reads DU - get him the fuck off Sirius!
