30. Wow, that is PERFECT!
Says everything in just that one panel! And if this is from Salt Lake City, in one of the few states left where Dimson has above-50% approval, then you KNOW he's in trouble!

15. SLC has a very popular DEMOCRATIC mayor.
Keep in mind that the vast majority of Mormons are quite well-educated and the church surprisingly is pretty lassez-faire regarding politics.

16. Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon is Howard Dean's 1st cousin
Things are changing here. Slowly. I think that may be why the Lt. Governor was so anxious to get us touch screen Diebold machines.

22. I'm a big SLC fan and have been since my childhood.
Beautiful city and the nicest people I've encounteres.

I also grew up with several friends who were Mormons and it galls me to see how people regard Mormons as a whole.

Ever more purple eventually becomes blue...

Let's hope.

18. The SL Trib
As a former resident of Utah, the Salt Lake Tribune has always been the "gentile" alternative to the very Mormoncentric Deseret News.

19. true - though I think the new owners are pretty conservative. You should
have read the endorsement letter to Bush in 2004 - it was so painful. It was obvious the editorial staff hated him and they pointed out every flaw he had before endorsing him, I'm sure with a metaphorical gun to their heads.

Hate, fear, and divide and conquer are really all they have, and the more you use a tool, the more obvious, and ridiculous, it becomes in perspective.

Thanks!

26. Are you familiar with Steve Benson, Arizona Republic?
He's pretty conservative about social issues, but he LOATHES bullshit and also cuts to the chase of government.

Sometimes I despise his cartoons, but when he nails 'em, he really nails 'em.

And, fwiw, he's a very active Mormon.

28. He loathes GWB, absolutely loathes him.
He's often a guest on local radio and does not hold back--plus he has a LOT of influence.

He admitted on radio that he voted for Kerry.

41. Benson is not an active Mormon
Blondeatlast,

I know Steve; once strolled w/him thru temple square while he donned his
favorite atheist T-shirt, "No God, No Monsters" (or something like that - it
was a few years ago). This was during their semi-annual general conference.

you also said,

"Keep in mind that the vast majority of Mormons are quite well-educated and the church surprisingly is pretty lassez-faire regarding politics."

Not true. Last Sunday Mormons we're instructed to call their Senators
to support the FMA; the Mormon church put its full weight and influence
behind CA's Prop 22 a few years back. Don't get me started on how it's changed
the SLTribune...Pat's brother, Will Bagley, an historian of the American west,
and particularly Mormon history, had a great column until ownership changed
hands a few years ago.

I was instrumental in having all three of these fellows present at ExMormon
conferences. Yep - those things exist '-)

38. This cartoon makes me so sad...
dead bodies floating with our nation's big problems written on them is a graphic truth that breaks my heart. It also breaks my heart to know without a doubt that the wedge issues actually take hold with a lot of people.

Other than election theft, I believe that if the wedge issues weren't on the state ballots in Nov. '04, Kerry would have been elected...JMHO.
