Bill Oreilly didn't come up with the Malmedy lie on his own.
It's been a long time subject on Neo Nazi websites

Check these links, use find to locate "malmedy"

http://www.zundelsite.org/english/harwood/Didsix01.html

Billo gets his "facts" from Nazi scum just like we always suspected.

6. Keith mentioned that many people of German descent were apologists
Edited on Tue Jun-06-06 07:14 PM by sojourner
for the nazis - tried to derail the US hearings on the topic but failed. Good "friend" Joe McCarthy (sp) -- yes that McCarthy -- served on the committee conducting the hearings. Afterward, he denounced the hearings for finding that the SS soldiers at fault for the slaughter (showed where HIS sentiments were, eh?). This was last night's show.

7. I watched that too
But, that's what got me thinking about doing a little research. Orielly is Irish. Sure he may have some German in him. But, I have a feeling he got this from the Nazis. It's got to be up to someone with a research staff to take it further.

9. Oh, O'Lielly probably DID get it from the Nazis.
It just so happens that Joe McCarthy and SOME German Americans tried to propagate the falsehood.

That also doesn't say all German Americans did.

13. Many (Catholic) Irish sympathized with the Germans
during WW1, against the English. How far sympathies extended during the 40s to a different German regime, I don't know, but there's long been antipathy between the Catholic Irish and the English. And remember that Pope Pius XII was not exactly anti-Nazi at the time, doing his best to protect Catholics rather than humanity.

So I think there's a historical conjunction between the O'Reillys and the McCarthys -- not the names, but the two individuals in this topic and their ilk -- of the world and the German Nazis.

18. The Republic of Ireland was neutral during WWII
this was partly because it couldn't afford to send their Army into the war and partly because those running the government at the time had spent their youth fighting the English. Early on (I think before 1939) Ireland did make some noise about letting the Germans set up airbases in Ireland - mostly to rankle the English. Not being stupid, and knowing that Hitler wasn't to be trusted, the government did not go through with this. Remember a good many English monarchs were more German than English, and the Irish didn't have a lot of love for the Germans either because of this. A good many citizens of the Republic did enlist in the English armed forces during WWII.

During WWI it wasn't so much that they sympathized with Germany (and while most of those who wanted a Republic were Catholic; not all were), but saw the war as a way of keeping the English Army occupied elsewhere.

20. oh, no doubt about that at all. just sayin' that KO has the scoop.
and the way he worded things, i had NO DOUBT at all that those "Germans" who were in such a snit were nazi apologists --- Bush isn't German either but his family has nazi ties.

And they can't nab him as having something against people of German descent. Kinda hard to do with a guy with a last name like Olbermann!

11. Thinks about it this way
I just posted this on RR.

"You don't forget being wrong about 84 murdered American GIs. It's just not something a person would forget."

He told this lie before and got caught then too.

Maybe someone should tell them Bill-O isn't really the nice little neocon he pretends to be.

15. It was probably a GOP talking point.
Pat Buchanan reportedly repeated it this last week and I heard Duncan Hunter use it on Larry King last Thursday. They did state that they were referring to reported GI revenge following Malmedy however. BO probably didn't take time to read the whole memo.

16. Wow. Reminds me of a trick Mike Royko
played years ago. He used an unusual spelling of his name, with a distinctive middle initial, to get himself on mailing lists. He signed up for The John Birch Society and a few other more "mainstream" rightwing newsletters. And then waited. Sure enough, he soon was inundated with Nazi and white supremacist mail, all using the same spelling/middle initial.
Imagine that.
Guess Bill-O is getting his info from some interesting sources.

Maybe Keith Olbermann has gotten over his outrage about this.
