News Orgs Struggling To Find Fresh Reporters For Iraq

Over Memorial Day weekend, New York Times metro reporter Paul von Zielbauer called his mother to tell her about his new assignment: Next month, he’ll be going to the Baghdad bureau.
 
“She freaked out and she hung up,” Mr. von Zielbauer said, “and turned on the TV and saw what happened to the CBS News crew.”
 
The bombing that hit the CBS team—killing cameraman Paul Douglas and soundman James Brolan, and leaving correspondent Kimberly Dozier in critical condition—made Iraq the deadliest modern war for journalists, by the tally of the Committee to Protect Journalists. When The Times posted job openings in Baghdad in March, only five applicants came forward.

“It’s a complete volunteer army,” Times foreign editor Susan Chira said of the Baghdad recruiting effort. “What we make clear is that this story is the most dangerous and challenging and stressful assignment in the world.”

I propose we send this story to every right wing blogger, every conservative "news" site and every repug commentator we can think of. Time to put their money where their mouth is and take a reporting assignment in Iraq. Just to let us – you know – know just how great things are going over there....

And NOT one of the week long excursions most of them boast about. There have been reporters stuck there for past few years. Time for the right to do the same.

If there are real journalists left alive, they are unlikely to be tempted toward such an assignment when their media outlets are just gonna scrub the journalism.

How about those "journalists" like Ann Coulter? Bill O'Reilly? Jonah Goldberg? Glenn Beck?

NOW is the time for them to FINALLY tell Americans all the "good news" about Iraq.

But considering how well it's going over there, that shouldn't be a problem. It will be like a vacation! :eyes:
