Typical Bush ploy, do something illegal then have lackeys legalize it
Yesterday Senator Arlen "Magic Bullet" Specter announced that he wouldn't be calling in telephone execs for questioning in the NSA phone monitoring case. Instead, he worked out a "compromise". In exchange for not subpoenaing the telephone executives, Orin Hatch promised to help push through legislation that would instate both a legal framework for the surveillance and some judicial oversight of said surveillance.

So instead of punishing those who broke the law, the law will simply be changed to legalize this activity. Even worse, some of our Democratic Senators are falling in line for this, DiFi among others. Nice to see there are still a few fighters in Congress, Leahy delivered a fine rebuke to the Judicial Committee.

So, is it time for a revolution yet?

2. Well, given the prevalence of Diebold, voter scrubbing
And other underhanded vote rigging tactics, sadly I would have to say it's coming down to bullets rather than ballots. The only question left now is when is there going to be a critical mass of outrage before people get off their ass and out in the streets? Sadly, probably not very soon. Given the corporate control of the media, and the apathy of the populace, I think that it's going to have to be a major economic downturn that really hurts before people will leave their couch.

Yes, I deeply cynical. Sadly my cynicism is being surpassed on a regular basis by events going on in this country. I never thought that I would see a president worse than Nixon, nor an administration commit more crimes than Nixon's. Well, I was wrong, and here we are.
