Homeless Sex Offenders Put Fairfield Preschool on Edge
Homeless Sex Offenders Put Fairfield Preschool on Edge

KXTV, California

Solano County administrators are grappling with the growing controversy over what to do with a handful of homeless Fairfield sex offenders currently living right around the corner from a childrens' day care center.

Members of the Solano County Board of Supervisors said they have few options in dealing with six recently parolled registered sex offenders being housed at the State Parole Office on Courage Drive in Fairfield. The office is just a half-mile away from the Child's Place Child Care Center on Beck Ave., a private preschool and day care center for 32 children.

The parolees, convicted of various crimes including child molestation and statutory rape, were released back to Solano County and, with nowhere else to go, have been given cots to sleep on in the parole office. Parole officials said new laws prohibiting where registered sex offenders can reside make it increasingly difficult to find living arrangements for released prisoners.

But while state law bars sex offenders from moving into neighborhoods within a half-mile of a school or park, preschools and day care centers are not similarly protected.
