Our future as seen through television- ST: Enterprise VIDEO
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 02:16 AM by Yollam
Whether you think our democracy was derailed in 1963, or 2001, there is no doubt that it's been derailed.

This short video gives a glimpse of what the future might be like if America isn't beyond saving:

And here's what it looks like if the BFEE Amerikkka timeline continues uninterrupted.

I love the contrast between these two videos. It's as stark as that.

I know this is just a fantasy TV show, but it dealt with a lot of what is going on today. I especially liked it when they had America occupied by the nazis, showing how Americans might feel if THEY were the occupied ones. It was broadcast as the Iraq war fell apart. I wonder how many people got the point?

1. I remember the episode where the timelines split.
It was the scene from "First Contact" where Zephraim Cochrane meets the Vulcan landing party. In the alternate timeline, instead of returning the Vulcan salute, he pulls out a shotgun and blows them away. Then he steals the technology from the Vulcan ship to jump-start the human push into space. This struck me as a far more likely scenario given our species' preference for violent solutions to our problems.

2. I did not care for this show when it started.
But as the seasons progressed, it improved a great deal, to the point that I was sad to see it go. Now I am enjoying it in reruns in Japan - one of my few English-language pleasures. :)

3. Same here.
The early episodes were a bit too focused on creating the recognizable technologies from TOS. 'Oh look,' I'd say, 'they're getting phasers,' or 'so that's when they started using transporters.' After awhile, tech-spotting got a bit dull. When they started focusing on the political and social underpinnings of the formation of the Federation, however, it got more interesting. And the alternate timeline plot was pretty good too. It certainly should have got at least one and possibly two more seasons.

4. I also thought the early scenes with the "decontamination rubdowns"...
...were gratuitous and insulting to the viewer. I am no prude, but that is not what the show is about. If you're going to put in sexual content, it had damn well be important to the storyline, not some contrived gimmick.

5. Absolutely.
Which reminds me, I must remember to delete those scenes from my hard drive one of these days. ;)

Now to kill this one, it was too late to edit.

Thanks for the heads up.
