This is a dangerous moment for Bush
If the insurgency doesn't fold now, more
truth will begin to dawn on the unwashed.
It's not an Al Quaeda thing, this war.

1. 97 % of the fighters are Iraqis .....
The war will continue on and on as bush continues to talk about "victory."

3. You're absolutely right, this is a dangerous moment.
It calls for some ethical etiquette that we all know * doesn't have. He will go in front of the cameras and look like the fool he has been since Jan.'01.

The most dangerous part of all this, is for the troops.

5. Don't rule out
Bushco claiming that it was the wrong guy they killed when the killing continues. 13 more Iraqis died in a market this morning.

Can't wait for Chimpy to speak. Let him get excited - deflation will follow.

7. Absolutely, because they sure do NOT want to have a discussion

Zarqawi has been a convenient distract for QUITE a while now.

6. Remember how capturing Saddam would stop the insurgency?
I tend to go with the theory that Al Queda wanted Zarqawi dead. Now we're fighting Iraqis without the cover of an international terrorist mastermind controlling the insurgency.

It could turn out worse in the long run.

8. I'm waiting for the "turning the corner" speech.
I suspect this will be like all the other ballyhooed breakthroughs - temporary and ultimately irrelevant. There is more going on in Iraq than just this one guy.

9. The word I am hearing is that there are alot
of very happy people in Baquba but a lot of pissed off Iraqi males in the "classic terrorist" demo (20-35). Guess you can't please everyone.

BTW this is my second post on DU.

12. Peter Bergen Said the same thing this A.M. I wrote a thread on his words.
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 06:53 AM by capi888
He said 90% of the insurgency is foreign fighters (saudi) while Zarqawi, is a Street fighter in competition with Al Quada.

13. Just another one of those 'corners turned'
I think Bush knows enough now not to celebrate and declare things much better.

OTOH, I'm sure Dickless Cheney will do another 'last throes' comment, because not only does he drink the koolaid, he mixed it up in the pitcher
