Zarqawi was just as interested in killing Iraqi people as he was American troops. With him dead and gone, much of the Iraqi population has good cause to celebrate. However, Zarqawi's replacement might shift the focus of the insurgents more toward coalition forces and less toward the Iraqi people. As long as our troops are left there fighting Bush's useless war for oil, they better be more on alert than ever now.

1. Well, according to Tom Friedman, he can't be replaced.
Ol' Tom (Zarqawi expert) was on CNN this morning, claiming that Zarqawi was such a brilliant strategist and had such a following that someone might try to replace him, but there's no way they'll be able to do what he's done. He said Osama Bin Laden, Al Zwahiri and Al Zarqawi were the three ringleaders of terrorism in the world and now that Al Zarqawi is gone, it's a huge victory in the war on terror. He was so very important he simply can't be replaced!

4. Ha!! They trotted this idiot out again for the cameras??

His main lot in life seems to be making predictions that NEVER come true. Very useful for the neocons

7. Ah yes, I am aware of that.
I actually got a chuckle listening to him (especially after he was introduced as an Al Zarqawi expert) and watching his little gopher face - he was filled with such glee! :hi:

9. He said Zarqawi's death would make a huge impact.
He made the guy sound like a god, and that the insurgency wouldn't be able to survive without him. He did not say the next 6 months would be pivotal, but he really didn't have to. ;-)

14. Ahhh.. regarding the "6 months" comments....
someone pulled up quotes of Friedman's over the last four years of him saying at least 5 or 6 times that next 6 months would be pivitol. Every 3 months for 4 years now he says the next 6 months are pivotal.

3. Nothing will change
It will continue to devolve into further choas until we leave, the Iraqis finish fighting among themselves until another brutal dictator emerges to repress the factions. He'll probably be a mullah, and allied with Iran and things will be much worse in Iraq under a form of sharia law. Women will suffer more.

Smirky and the neocons opened Pandoras Box and its going to run its course over the next few years with hundreds of thousands dying to install a mullah in Iraq.

15. No doubt the insurgency will continue
It will continue until the occupying forces are evicted, and will continue after that until a new dictator or mullah emerges

8. Not just the troops....
this is more "bring it on" talk.

"Somebody" out there might stir up a terrorist act, just to prove them wrong.

I vacillate back and forth between a)they're totally stupid and incompetent and b)they do this just so more people will get killed and we'll get deeper into the quagmire.
