Remember when Uday was killed? Qusay? Saddam captured?
those miserable bastards in the media crowed and crowed, until they had to face reality again.

Killing al-Zargawi does NOTHING except bring more violence.

Just like the aftermath of the killing and capture of the three men above.

1. You know whats funny, Catwoman?
I was very, very happy that he was killed - then I had my typical reaction:

"Shit - what if his replacement is worse?"

That is what always makes me nervous about assassinations and elections. You are glad to get rid of the devil you know.. but the devil you don't know is ... such an unknown.

Lets hope for an idiot that can't lead so we can finish the "job" and get our troops home.

4. I'm scratching my head as the CNN talking heads are saying the
administration is showing controlled restraint this AM. There isn't a microphone available or microphone conference called that the administration couldn't get away from. But the left radio talkers are the only ones pointing out that the military has in the past said the violence is only caused by 5% al Qaeda. I'm glad this cold blooded killer is dead but the administration sure is trying to prop up poll numbers.

6. Indeed. Thats why I'm not even going to discuss it.
The violence will continue. In the big picture, this is a meaningless "victory".

7. I had it on good authority the TROOPS will be returning soon...Bush
was on TV and he said we gotum...we got the Bad guy.

Rummy had his own PC...same thing, we got um...

So I figure its a big deal, which I don buy.

Are they saying the troops coming home soon....?

Sounds like it but then these dudes are known to LIE CHEAT STEAL too...but Bush is happy and I think will get a bounce in his numbers until the situation worsens?

The Reality is we are stuck in the mud....

15. It gives the freeper types an excuse to...
...puff out their little chickenhawk chests, strut around like they are big important men, and point to us over here at DU and call us a bunch of commies that want to see us fail.

All the while ignoring the irony that our very presence in Iraq constitutes a massive failure on the war on terror.

Meanwhile in Afghanistan, OBL is still alive, the taliban warlords have regained power, and the Afghan farmers have switched to growing poppies and making heroin to support worldwide terrorist sleeper cells.

Mission accomplished indeed...

17. Did the republican crime wave end when reagan died?
The terrorists are doing what bush wants them to do - "bring it on." Thousands are lined up to replace zarqawi just like young republicans are being cultivated to take delay and abramoff's place. Evil breeds evil, here and there.

violence.

You're right, though. This won't change much, if anything at all

23. Another major TURNING POINT in the war on terror. Turning round
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 09:10 AM by mistertrickster
and round and round . . .

There've been so many turning points--elections, constitutions, people killed, people elected--I'm dizzy.

End the lies. Bring them home. Stop the American oil empire.

25. This is a problem with military tactics.
Current US military doctrine has a hard-on for the idea of the killing stroke. The decapitation. The one bold strike which will render an enemy prostrate. This was evident in Somailia (as well as unarmoured HMMWVs being useless in a combat zone) with the stupid hunt for HVTs (High value targets), which was further adopted by the US for use in Iraq and Afghanistan. Most wanted lists and so forth.

The problem is due to the assymetric effect. Zarqawi never led more than a small minority of "fighters". There are too many groups to think the kill/capture of any one man will have an effect. I'm sure the oppresive government of Jordan is happy he's dead since he was a thorn in the side of their dictatorial rule. And this will be a short term plus for the US (3-5 months) like the storming of Fallujah in Nov 2004.

But, it's not going to make a dent in the 2-3 KIA and 7-9WIA daily from Iraq.

Of course, the fact that a General can no longer issue an order such as, "Kill everyone over 10." or tell his men to reduce a land to an uninhabitable hell on earth may be hampering the Glorious State's Triumphant War
