I'm swearing off network news...
After watching the coverage this morning of al-Zarqawi and seeing the pure ignorance of our media figures, I'm swearing off network news. I was watching CNN and I saw one of the anchors (Fredericka I think is her name?) interviewing some expert on the effect that al-Zarqawi's death would have on violence in Iraq. The expert told her 90% of the insurgency was homegrown Iraqis not affiliated with al-Qaida and she was actually shocked! How could she not know that? Does she not pay attention to the crap she's reading or is that just not reported at all in the news? In either instance, it's a disgrace.

I'll stick to getting the news I need to know from DU.

1. AAR, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report,
"Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me," and occasionally the BBC are far better sources IMHO.

Now if I could just kick the Sunday Morning Snooze show habit. It's a total wasteland except for 'Step-on-top-of-this's" Sunday funnies and Shieffer's commentary. Russert is such a total shill.

4. Well I stopped watching regularly a long time ago..
Except for a brief stint during Hurricane Katrina. I only check in and watch when something major happens but now I don't think I'll even do that. I can get any clips of important footage online. I just can't deal with the ignorance.

6. Try this instead.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/

Of course, you'd have to miss all the pearly white teeth, glamorous make-up, and inane commentary, spouted by airheads, and "on the scene" alleged reporters asking insightful questions like, "How do you feel about your house collapsing on your children?"

8. Welcome to the club..
I stopped(and never get tired of saying it) on Nov 6, 2002.

I know why the corporate media doesn't like Michael Moore ..because he exposed them for what they are in "Bowling For Columbine".

9. I think it's important to watch network news...
because that is what the American people are being fed. Remember, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BELIEVE IT! In fact, you can almost be assured that it's spin and lies. But if you want to know what is the default American story on any given day, it's still ABC/NBC/CBS. Mouth-breathers think it's "too liberal," DUers know it's controlled by money on the right; nevertheless it is the "news of the day," and it's good to know what they're selling.

Don't be afraid of it - don't believe it - but be aware of it.

(you also don't have to buy whatever they're flogging on the commercials)
