Reading PC intern's fascinating story about his dinner with Joe Wilson
in which he quotes Ambassador Wilson as saying that the press is "all about ratings", I started to wonder, why don't we have an ongoing and concerted campaign of e and snail mail to the advertisers of shows such as Tweety's? If it's all about ratings, ratings are all about advertisting rates. It seems to me that an organized and ONGOING letter writing campaign to the advertisers of such shows as Tweety and Scarborough and even Wolfie (and of course I am not bothering with FAUX) coupled with making good on boycotts of the products advertised, would possibly make a difference.

I am constantly wondering how I can make a difference. It's easy to forget that my wallet, combined with YOUR wallet, and YOUR wallet, and HIS wallet, and HER wallet, can rule the world.

Should I start a newsletter? Would anyone subscribe? I am willing to --ugh -- record Tweety's show and log the names of the advertisers, research their addresses, and post a newsletter, if people will commit to writing and boycotting. Thoughts?

3. He said Tweety says it is, but I don't believe it - Tweety would rather

hide behind that handy excuse because it worked during the Monica impeachment.

No one expects Tweety to say the truth - his GE masters and his close mentor, Jack Welch, lay down the law and the storylines must follow a road that protects GE's bottom line, and that bottom line is MOST FED by the US Dept of Defense from our tax dollars. So the Bush agenda for war is THEIR agenda for war profiteering.

7. well, I guess that thread got hijacked
So let me try to reclaim it with a question. How many of us at DU are political dilettantes? I know there are a few -- I think too few -- who are seriously involved and committed to working to get the insane posse out of the White House and reclaiming our country. Lord knows I have read a lot of beautiful posts here from people who had spent a day knocking on doors, writing letters, organizing boycotts and protests, and everything else. I applaud those people. But with 90,000 members, Democratic Underground could be a truly great force to be reckoned with -- if we weren't mostly political dilettantes. I KNOW I could be doing a lot more than I do. I give money to a lot of causes, I organized and paid for the ThankYouRFK website, I write the occasional letter.

There is so much more I could do.

If we each dedicated 15 minutes of our day -- and I know we all have 15 minutes, whether it's a lunch hour or early in the morning or late at night -- to DOING one thing, whether it's writing a letter, finding a petition to sign, DU'ing a poll, phoning a Congressperson, putting a bumper sticker on your car, emailing an advertiser who's advertising on FOX -- whatever it is, if we each did ONE thing EVERY day, imagine the difference we could make. I mean, really, IMAGINE 90,000 committed, ACTIVE, INVOLVED people. Reading DU is great, but it is in no way enough.

Democratic Underground - we ARE the people. I am tired of being a political dilettante.

And if you are too, then PLEASE, people, let's get involved. Time is running out.

Thank you for reading my rant. I hope I haven't insulted anyone, but even if I have, I stand by my words.

8. Not a rant, at all, but a reasonable observation.
Salute, patriot.
