Chafee joins wingnuts in filibustering native Hawaiin bill
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 03:55 PM by Idioteque
Notice anything? Instead of joining EVERY single Democrat and a large group of moderate Republicans to support Sens. Inouye and Akaka with their Native Hawaiin bill that they have been trying to pass for 10 years, Chafee decided he would side with the hard right. While this doesn't affect Rhode Islanders directly, I hope Whitehouse will use it to point out how Chafee is sucking up to the extreme wing of the party to get reelected.

3. Always tough to tell whether Chafee is kowtowing to Bush's
White House who are putting pressure on him to vote their way, or if he's trying to jumble the issues to cover his political base back home, where I guess Laffey is putting the heat on him.

It's even harder to guess which "base" he's playing to, since Rhode Island Republicans aren't all of one stripe, are they?

And what does he think he gains by joining the right wing on this stand against Inouye?

Puzzlin' evidence.

4. Let's not forget that the GOP struck a deal with Hawaii's two Senators
to get their vote for drilling in ANWR!
