worst quote from Bush I've seen in ages
"I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the president. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel I owe anybody an explanation," -

http://www.nybooks.com/articles/19092

Seems to me the President has a higher duty to explain himself than anyone else. Otherwise he's a king.

Entitled, spoiled, brat.

2. "If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier...
...just so long as I'm the dictator."

Another quote from dumbfuck.

3. Bush is burning the Constitution before our eyes
Elections? We don't need no stinking elections, I'm the decider, and I decide no elections.

8. The weirdly interesting thing is he's always said that over and
over again, in one way or another. The "dictator" joke, the insistence on "Mr. President", his self proclaimed title "the decider"...And everyone overlooks it as some kind of quirk. It's almost a taunt and it's really unsettling in the cold light of day.

12. The right wing actually BELIEVES, in effect, we 'elect' dictators.
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 06:47 PM by TahitiNut
People have actually gotten a lot MORE authoritarian in the last 50 years, instead of less, and especially in the last 25 years. It doesn't take much to see that these people don't believe in the conventional 'democratic' role of an elected representative, including the pResident, where each issue was promulgated when it had a bare majority of public support, at a minimum. Traditionally, they'd even back off if they couldn't get more than a bare majority. They now interpret their election as the 'authority' to impose the will of a zealous minority on the majority. What's particularly disturbing is that brain-dead partisans, both in the public and in public office, follow in lockstep with such narrow minority positions, not because they actually believe their constituency agrees on that particular issue but because the political climate has become so partisan that they're willing to score a "win" even if the "win" isn't in their best interests or something they'd otherwise agree with.

This has always been an attitude slightly scattered throughout the pols and the public, but it has become a cancer in the last 20-26 years. It's suicidal, imho - suicidal for the country, not just a party.

13. not only is he an arrogant, egotistical, and power hungry SOB . . .
he also has absolutely NO concept of what being President of the United States is all about . . .

the President is the ONLY elected official (VPs don't count) who represents ALL of us . . . someone who works FOR ALL of us and who is accountable TO ALL of us . . .

he sure as hell DOES owe us all an explanation . . . several hundred (thousand?), in fact . . .
