Tricks when the unbearable happens..
bearing things

I've noticed a trick my mind plays when things become unbearable. Instead of dealing with the unbearable thing in its entirety, my mind cuts it up into smaller pieces (usually designated by some time frame) and deals with each piece individually, one at a time. For example, when my father passed away 10 years ago, I handled it on a day by day basis, and sometimes even on a moment by moment basis. One day at a time, things like the passing away of loved ones becomes bearable. Same thing happens with stressful things, deal with one thing at a time. You can probably measure the pain of a thing by seeing how small the pieces need to be cut up before you can begin to bear it.

1. I think this happens with people who don't want to allow themselves
To believe that BushCo is as evil as they really are.

I've done this myself a few times. Twice when I witnessed people dying. My mind started making up alternative stories... no, that man turning purple on the floor of the restaurant isn't dying! It's some life saving exercise being performed by the hotel staff! That's it! That's the ticket! It took nearly an hour for it to sink in. Even after I heard the siren and watched the stretcher being rolled in... it was a very weird experience to say the least.

The other one was quite gruesome, so I won't go into it here. But yes. Our minds do try to protect us from harsh realities.
