If Dr. Julianne Malveaux thought Osama bin Ladin was Afghani, how the hell
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 10:51 PM by BrklynLiberal
can we expect the average American to know what is going on in the Middle East when BushCo is making a concerted effort to confuse them??

I was listening to NPR on my car radio this evening and heard Dr. Malveaux refer to bin Laden as being from Afghanistan, until she was corrected by one of the other guests on the show, telling her he was from Saudi Arabia.
I could not believe that someone in her position could be so ignorant of a fact that should have been in her conciousness! :grr:

WNYC NPR: News & NOTES 10PM EDT
Roundtable: Zarqawi, McKinney, Grad Gang Threat

Topics: Al-Qaida leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is killed in an airstrike in Iraq; a high school senior might be forced to skip his graduation ceremony because of a gang threat; and how Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) might avoid indictment for an alleged attack on a Capitol Hill policeman. Guests: Robert George, a New York Post editorial writer; Julianne Malveaux, an economist and author; and Pedro Noguera, a professor of education at New York University.

They immigrated to Saudi at some point.

Most Americans are clueless. :(

2. According to Wikipedia
Osama bin Laden was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to Muhammed Awad bin Laden, a wealthy businessman involved in construction and with close ties to the Saudi royal family. His family originally came from Hadhramaut, Yemen.

3. it's not necessarily incorrect to say he's from Afghanistan
I say I'm from Florida. I wasn't born here, but I live here and have lived here for years. He's not originally from Afghanistan, but it is where he set up shop. His Saudi family publicly disowns him (keyword being publicly). The Taliban welcomed him with open arms.

5. I should have said it was in context of saying that Zarqawi was from
Jordan and how much of the terrorism that was going on in Afghanistan and Iraq was incited by people who were not actually from those countries.

4. I heard Nora McDonald on MSNBC say that Kristin Breitweiser
of the 9-11 widows fame was a "Democrat", that she had supported Kerry etc, sort of in defense of what Annthrax was saying. She didn't bother to mention that Breitweiser and her husband had voted for Bush in 2000 and then changed her mind about him.

These people push whatever agenda they want and the facts be damned! At least someone called Malveaux to task on OBL.
