Poll question: Now that the military has returned to being an honorable profession
post-Zarkawi killing, and now that Zarkawi's death at the hands of our noble forces have made Iraq safer for society, and now that Bush has implemented a drawdown of units in Iraq, assigning guard duty of our borders to the National Guard, which branch of the military do you recommend for this year's high school graduates?

2. Base HSs are in the midst of graduation right now

No one is more likely to join the military than a military "brat"--if it was good enough for Dad and Mom! Despite parent deployments and their attempts to talk their kids out of joining, you're going to have a good number who still want to sign on that dotted line.

Then there's the $1,000 "bounty" for service members recruiting someone. Yes, our active duty are now recruiting officers!

Bush has his ducks in a row on this one, for what it is--one last gasp before a draft.

4. Great poll/post... It truly felt like "2 minute hate" today on the DU...
...so many people were seduced to rally around the death of a "bad man" and missed the forest for the dead stump.

7. Nothing For the Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard?
Only about 20% of the men and women currently serving in the Active, Reserves or National Guard voted Kerry.

Congratulations on helping lower the percentage!

Now think about this for a few seconds. Just think about it:

Can you imagine what the Armed Forces would be like if there were more liberals and Democrats in the Military?

I really shouldn't have to explain it, do I?

9. You do realize you left out the Navy and the Air Force, don't you?
In fact the Marines are a branch of the Navy. (Just don't try to tell a Marine that.)

Under normal circumstances I wouldn't discourage a young person from joining the military. Under normal circumstances it's a great experience that gets kids out into the world, teaches them discipline and teamwork skills, and can even provide a career path and/or higher education opportunities.

But right now? No way in hell I'd steer any kid towards the blood-drenched maw of the US Armed Forces under Bush**'s SNAFU.

11. I left it out on purpose
and listed branches most in need. The Blue to Green program has not had the desired effect, and the air force is laying off.

12. Everyone child should Watch Full Metal Jacket
And everyone on the DU should remember what is drilled into your son and daughter.

What makes the grass grow?
Blood! Blood! Blood!

What do we do for a living ladies?
Kill! Kill! Kill!

Every High Schooler should also read:

Johnny Got His Gun

as well, but of course schools which require federal funds are not going to allow the future drones of the empire to be sullied with the idea that war is wrong, war is not glorious and war does not make heroes...
